Platform Engineer

Storyteq helps marketing and creative teams in top brands to scale their creative production and gain control over their marketing campaigns. Through our platform, our clients can streamline campaign workflows, automate their creative production through templates & AI and activate engaging campaigns that go to market faster.

We believe creativity takes time, but creative production shouldn't. Since 2016 our mission has been to revolutionize the way creative assets are created and used. Magic happens when we let technology empower creativity. Our endless curiosity and relentless commitment to our customers lies at the heart of our problem-solving approach. This shared mission is woven into our values: we dream big, think differently, and are stronger together.

The Platform Engineer is a hands-on technical role within the Platform Operations team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure, tooling, and automation that underpins Storyteq's global platform. Reporting to the Head of Platform Operations, you will contribute directly to the reliability, security, and operational excellence of our cloud estate while helping to build the internal developer platform that empowers product engineering teams to ship with speed and confidence.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role. You will work alongside experienced platform engineers to deliver and evolve the infrastructure that keeps our platform running at scale, and the tooling that makes engineering teams more productive every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure across cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP) following established architectural patterns.
  • Write, review, and evolve Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or equivalent tooling, ensuring all infrastructure is version-controlled, reproducible, and auditable.
  • Manage provisioning, configuration management, and environment lifecycle across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure modernisation initiatives as part of the broader platform strategy.
  • Apply GitOps principles to infrastructure and application delivery, using ArgoCD or equivalent tooling to enforce declarative, version-controlled, and auditable deployment workflows.
  • Contribute to maintaining platform availability against our SLA of >99.5%, supporting proactive monitoring, alerting, and operational response.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, tracing, and observability tooling across infrastructure tiers.
  • Build and maintain operational dashboards providing clear, real-time visibility into system health for engineering teams.
  • Participate in data-driven operational reviews and contribute to preventative engineering improvements.
  • Build and maintain internal developer platform capabilities that enable product engineering teams to build, test, and deploy software efficiently and autonomously.
  • Develop and maintain golden path templates, scaffolding, and paved road patterns that reduce cognitive load and accelerate engineering delivery.
  • Continuously improve the developer experience by identifying friction points, eliminating bottlenecks, and enabling self-service across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Maintain and evolve CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, secure, and automated software delivery across all engineering teams, leveraging GitOps practices and ArgoCD for declarative, auditable continuous delivery.
  • Contribute to cloud and SaaS cost visibility and optimisation efforts, supporting FinOps practices including rightsizing, reservation management, and waste elimination.
  • Help build and maintain cost dashboards and reporting to provide clear visibility of spend trends and optimisation opportunities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve infrastructure efficiency without compromising reliability or performance.
  • Design and operate infrastructure with security-first principles embedded throughout.
  • Contribute to vulnerability patching, compliance processes, and security hardening across the infrastructure estate.
  • Work in close partnership with the InfoSec function to support defence-in-depth across all infrastructure and network layers.
  • Ensure infrastructure meets or exceeds compliance requirements relevant to Storyteq's operating environment.
  • Participate in infrastructure incident detection, triage, escalation, response, and resolution processes.
  • Maintain runbooks, severity classifications, and on-call processes, contributing to a well-documented and reliable operational playbook.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and post-incident reviews, driving preventative engineering to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Identify and address infrastructure-related technical debt and architectural improvements in collaboration with platform and product engineering teams.
  • Contribute to the implementation and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans for critical infrastructure and services.
  • Support the establishment and validation of RTOs and RPOs through regular scheduled testing.
  • Maintain and evolve runbooks and recovery playbooks in line with platform changes and growth.
  • Ensure service continuity considerations are embedded in infrastructure design decisions.
  • Act as a reliable engineering partner to product teams, removing infrastructure blockers and improving deployment flow.
  • Support capacity planning and environment management to ensure teams have reliable, performant environments at all times.
  • Help measure and improve engineering feedback loops, deployment frequency, and lead times using DORA and related metrics.
  • Embody a 'platform as a product' mindset, treating product engineering teams as customers and continuously improving to meet their needs.

Experience & Skills Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
  • Solid experience with cloud infrastructure operations across Azure, AWS, or GCP, with practical experience in cloud-native environments.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling such as Terraform or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of SRE principles, SLA/SLO/SLI frameworks, and incident management best practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling, pipeline design, and automated software delivery, including GitOps workflows and ArgoCD or equivalent continuous delivery platforms.
  • Familiarity with developer experience practices, internal developer platforms, or golden path concepts.
  • Understanding of infrastructure security fundamentals, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong communicator, able to collaborate effectively with engineering peers and contribute clearly in team settings.
  • Self-directed, curious, and energised by the challenge of building reliable systems at scale.

Personal Attributes

  • Operationally minded and committed to reliability – energised by the challenge of keeping complex systems running.
  • Proactive and self-directed, comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a bias towards action.
  • Collaborative and partnership-oriented, building trusted working relationships across engineering and product teams.
  • Committed to continuous learning and personal development.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally on occasion, particularly to the UK, Netherlands, and South Africa.
