STGi is currently seeking a Social Services Director to provide services at our Georgia War Veterans Home.
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the facility social services department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and as directed by the Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS: Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with and supervise other team members. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as must be willing to handle residents, staff and visitors based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility and its premises. Moves intermittently throughout the workday. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is subject to difficult and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors. Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing education programs. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke and other air contaminants. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical assessment. Must be able to push, pull, move and/or life a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Prefer, as a minimum, a bachelor's degree in social work or a human services field including sociology, gerontology, special education rehabilitation counseling, psychology, etc. Master of Social (MSW) or related field also preferred. Must be in good standing with local, state or national licensing and accrediting bodies. Prefer, as a minimum, two years of social work experience in a health care setting working directly with individuals. Prefer one to two years of supervisory experience. Must maintain an active American Heart Association BLS certification. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
