MLRR IT Support Specialist (Information Systems Specialist 5)

The Department of Geology and Mineral Industries' mission is to provide earth science information and regulation to make Oregonians safe and prosperous. The mission is implemented via two primary programs and a variety of focus areas and regulatory programs. This position is in the Mineral Land Regulation and Reclamation Program (MLRR).

Join the Mineral Land Regulation and Reclamation (MLRR) program as our go-to IT expert! In this role, you'll lead support for our new online permitting portal (ePermitting) and other critical systems—handling maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and staff training. You'll work closely with the MLRR Program Manager and agency IT lead to keep our tech running smoothly and efficiently, and provide responsive and knowledgeable assistance to your colleagues, the regulated community, the public and partner organizations. What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of information systems experience in: IT technology support with experience using GIS applications, hardware maintenance and software administration; OR
  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, AND two (2) years of information systems experience in: IT technology support with experience using GIS applications, hardware maintenance and software administration; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field may substitute for all of the above.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and determining viability of hardware and software employed to assist customers.
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policies, Microsoft, and Windows operating environment.
  • Knowledge of database management, metadata, and GIS software, tools and techniques with knowledge of geographic information systems, experience using GIS applications, specifically ESRI ArcGIS Desktop suite, including ArcPro, where DOGAMI builds and maintains ArcGIS web maps supported by the agencies GIS data.
  • Familiarity or background in geography, geology, or related natural resources science.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple tasks, frequent interruptions, and competing deadlines.
  • Skilled in writing clear and concise reports, with strong technical analytical skills.
  • Proven ability and skill to clearly explain complex/technical concepts in terms that are understandable for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven skills in providing customer service to a variety of users.
  • Experience with administering online data management systems for licensing or permitting and CRM software is highly preferred.
