Position Highlights

The Multnomah County Circuit Court is hiring a Judicial Assistant for the Honorable Morgan Long (Court Operations Associate).

In this role…

Much of your workday will be spent communicating on behalf of the judge with probationers, stakeholders, parties to cases and their attorneys. You will prepare supporting documents and orders as required, as well as a variety of other correspondence and legal documents. You may occasionally be required to review legal quotes and citations. You will enter and retrieve information from the court's case management system, and route electronic documents through workflows to the appropriate persons. You will also use electronic calendars and tracking systems to schedule court events for the judge, and to monitor case status.

You will use established laws, rules, guidelines, and procedures to perform your work. You will need to meet statutory and other legal deadlines for specific cases. You must be able to recognize and safeguard confidential information, because you may be faced with sensitive, controversial, upsetting, or confidential information while performing your duties.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent AND at least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents OR any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Requested Skills and Attributes

  • Experience providing direct support to one or more persons by performing a variety of clerical or administrative tasks that includes managing calendars and schedules, using computers to enter and retrieve information, managing a workload to ensure accuracy, compliance, and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy, content, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Experience assisting or interacting with people who are facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances or highly stressful situations.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.

Additional Information

Parking

Multnomah County Circuit Court does not provide parking for the central courthouse or justice center staff. Multnomah does offer a Rideshare Rewards program that will provide $50/month for eligible employees. To be eligible, you must spend $50 or more per month on one of the following for working at the courthouse or justice center: TriMet (public transportation), Pay to Park (street or garage), or carpool (share cost of parking). Another option is the Douglas Garage at 1835 S River Dr., Portland, OR 97204; parking costs $180/month and is a half mile from the courthouse and justice center.

Criminal Background Check

You will be subject to a criminal background check if you are a finalist. Adverse results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may result in disqualification if the circumstances are directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
