The position resides on the Mail Center team, Bureau of Operations Services. The team manages all enterprise mailing operations, including sealing, folding, inserting, sorting, and applying postage. Staff work closely with the U.S. Postal Service to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Each year, the Mail Center processes approximately 17 million checks, direct deposit advices, and business correspondence.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
You must be a qualified employee of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Office Assistant 2 Stores & Mail.
NCP Notes:
If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is three or less, the agency, at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a noncompetitive promotion without further examination under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is more than three, the agency, at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a provisional promotion under the provisions of Section 65 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must be able to lift 50lbs.
• Must be able to stand for a minimum of two hours.
• Ability to prepare and maintain standard records and reports.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of rules, regulations, and rates of the US Postal Service.
• Working knowledge of the operation, adjustment, and care of mailing equipment.
• Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of mail staff to ensure daily program directives, objectives, and timelines are met.
• Ability to prepare narrative and statistical material for management that ensures accurate tracking of daily work activity and customer invoicing purposes.
• Ability to deal effectively with people and staff under stressful situations.
