Facility Operations Assistant 2

Job Title

Will be required to operation of a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment; perform routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment; operate a variety of hand and power tools; operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others; orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures; provide and explain simple written guidelines for work if they are available; personally observe work in progress and that which is completed to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules; keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used; may operate self-propelled machinery such as cars, trucks, construction equipment including dump trucks requiring a commercial drivers license and riding mowers; may operate non-self-propelled machines.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.

Additional Comments

Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
