Lead Software Engineer

Working within a small Engineering Enablement team, the role will cover a wide range of projects and technology. The team is focused on both looking further ahead than the Product Development teams to ensure that early technology decisions meet the long term aims of the business and also assisting alongside delivery of bigger projects as foundational services are required withing the platform.

Working as a hands-on software engineer within the Engineering Enablement team, sitting alongside the Product Development teams. The role requires a knowledge of a wide range of technology and a long term view of how the engineering function need to prepare to deliver on the ambitious product roadmap. There is need for a strong communicator to be able to work with a range of different stakeholders and shape the technical direction of the business towards its aims.

Investigate areas of all products for performance and stability improvements. Research into potential new technology and its implementation within the existing roadmap of products. Building out of new services as required to support the wider StarCompliance platform. Assist in the bigger picture architectural plan realisation of the Star Platform. Working alongside Product Management to build a technical roadmap to support the product roadmap. Ensure adherence to engineering best practices and coding standards.

Skills & Experience

• Proficient with a range of development technologies (C#, JavaScript, Python, React)
• Commercial experience of working on an enterprise level application
• Experience of cloud computing technologies within the Azure platform
• A proven track record of developing for large and complex software projects
• Experience of a range of relational database management systems (e.g.SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical concepts to a range of different stakeholders in the business
• Genuine interest in reaching out across different people in the business to bring together the best solutions
• Able to turn loosely defined problem statements into a strategic plan
• Ability to quickly learn new technical skills and frameworks

Working Conditions

• Standard hours per week with flexibility on location, with travel to other locations (York, UK) and when required
