We're growing our Geo Division in the North of England (Manchester / Stoke) and are looking for a talented Senior or Principal Geotechnical Consultant to join our team. Geo is a core discipline at Stantec, backed by strong support from executive leaders who have progressed through the business themselves. If you're seeking genuine career progression and the chance to work on diverse, high-impact projects across sectors such as renewables, defence, justice, commercial, and residential, we'd love to hear from you. Our geotechnical team works closely with a wide range of disciplines across Stantec, helping clients navigate every stage of the planning and construction process. We advise on the scoping of site investigations, interpret field and laboratory data, prepare interpretative and design reports, and provide support throughout construction. Upcoming projects include major earthworks schemes involving surcharging, ground improvement, and close collaboration with our contaminated land specialists. We're also committed to developing innovative approaches and promoting sustainable, technically robust alternatives to traditional methods—particularly on challenging brownfield sites. Ideally, we're seeking someone with hands-on geotechnical experience who's ready to take the next step in their career.
You will hold a BEng, BSc, or higher degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering. Alternatively, you may have a Geology degree supported by an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent). You are a Chartered Member of a relevant professional institution or are actively working toward Chartership. You'll bring solid experience in UK geotechnical practice, with a strong understanding of soil mechanics and soil–structure interaction. Ideally, you'll have experience preparing Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs) and Earthworks Specifications (EWS), working to current UK standards including EC7 and DMRB. You'll have a good working knowledge of ground investigation techniques, with proven experience specifying geotechnical testing (both in situ and laboratory) and interpreting results accurately. Your role will include technical analysis of foundations, retaining structures, slope stability and earthworks, alongside the preparation of design reports and technical specifications. You will help design and manage geotechnical projects, including authoring GDRs, EWSs, Geotechnical Feedback Reports, and related documentation. The role also involves on-site auditing during construction phases. You'll stay up to date with current best practice in UK geotechnical design, including standards such as Eurocode 7 and CD622. You'll be proficient with industry-standard software, and experience with Plaxis 3D or other advanced finite element (FE) tools is highly advantageous. Finally, you'll have a proven ability to produce clear, concise, and insightful interpretative geotechnical reports.
