Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Senior Engineering Geologist

Stantec's Environment & Geosciences business operates across the Asia Pacific region delivering sustainable solutions in a range of disciplines including Geotechnical Engineering, Contaminated Land Management, Environmental Approvals and Post-Approvals; Environmental Compliance and Management Systems, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and Sustainability. Our Geosciences team provides first-class geotechnical engineering services using advanced investigation and analysis techniques. As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Senior Engineering Geologist to join our Perth office and lead a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from urban infrastructure to mining. This is a senior role offering the opportunity to drive technical excellence, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development. You'll play a key role in project delivery, client engagement, and strategic growth initiatives, while enjoying flexible working arrangements and a supportive environment that fosters career progression.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Lead and assist in geotechnical investigations including drilling, test pitting, CPT programs and geophysical surveys across WA and beyond.
  • Lead site inspections for such purposes as geological mapping, investigation optimisation, material assessment, geotechnical support during construction, etc.
  • Planning, optimisation and management of site investigations, including client liaison, subcontractor coordination and development of lab testing programs.
  • Undertake geotechnical analysis and design for slope stability, pavements, landfills, dams, foundations, retaining walls, and other structures, and delivery of interpretive reports to a high standard.
  • Apply engineering judgement to interpret data and develop practical, commercially viable solutions.
  • Prepare proposals and deliver high-quality technical outputs that meet client expectations and deadlines.
  • Lead multidisciplinary collaboration with engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, geotechnicians, and environmental scientists.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering technical development and career growth.
  • Engage in business development activities, including client relationship management and identifying new opportunities.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Geology.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in geotechnical investigations and analysis.
  • Proven experience in project management and client engagement.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business development.
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote sites.
  • This role involves both office and field work. Applicants must be physically capable of working in remote field environments for extended periods.
