Stantec

A global design and consulting firm specializing in engineering, architecture, environmental sciences, and project management.

Data Engineer

Are you a passionate data engineer who enjoys working on innovative data services? Join us at Stantec Netherlands for groundbreaking projects. Your expertise will help improve our living environment, accelerate the energy transition, and reduce societal costs. Be part of a team that creates, builds, and delivers sustainable solutions with real impact! At Stantec, we use modern technologies and extensive environmental knowledge to help our clients. With the Bodemrisicokaart, we provide fast and affordable advice on underground risks such as soil contamination, explosive war remnants, groundwater levels, archaeological and ecological values. As you can see, our product is steeped in major national data sources that are far from fully developed. In addition, machine learning will play an increasingly central role in the coming years, with both data engineers and data scientists playing a crucial role in its implementation in our big data product landscape. As a Data Engineer, you will be the driving force behind the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and innovative data services. You will design and build CI/CD-based ETL pipelines within a solid structure of Azure Landing Zones, with which we will realize and prepare safe, scalable, and future-proof data solutions for machine learning applications. In addition, you will be responsible for improving our products by using advanced algorithms and big data technologies, such as Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory. With this, you will play a crucial and leading role in the development and management of our data infrastructure through which you make a difference. You will have the freedom to experiment and work with the latest technologies in your field. There is plenty of room for your own ideas, come on through! The multicultural team that you will join combines expertise in the field of (geo) data engineering, software development, automated testing, UI/UX design, and environmental management. The working language within the team is English, but in the organization itself it is Dutch. As a dev team, we meet at least once a week in Delft for planning, retro, and refinement. A joint lunch is more the rule than the exception. We also make occasional trips to our other branches in the Netherlands. Our way of working is scrum infused with the agile mindset. We primarily focus on developing and delivering long-term solutions that solve problems for an entire industry or market. At the moment, we are focusing on accelerating the energy transition, automated ETL processes, and smarter data analyses using the latest techniques. We see this way of working as an excellent fit for maintaining and increasing engagement with the client, organization, and team members. As a team, we set clear goals and results, while the development team has the freedom to decide how best to achieve them. What are your main responsibilities?

- Design and develop data services: You are responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and innovative data services within the Azure Landing Zones.

- Build data systems and ETL pipelines: Structure, scale, and further automate existing ETL processes for processing large amounts of raw and (un)structured (spatial) data.

- Collaborate with other specialists: You work closely with other developers, domain experts, and analysts to ensure that data becomes actual information.

- Improve data quality and efficiency: You understand the data models and data protocols in the market, so that, fueled by domain knowledge, you come up with new insights and proposals.

- Experiment with new technologies: You have the freedom to experiment with the latest technologies, thereby contributing to the development of your field within the dev team and sharing this knowledge by guiding colleagues and mapping out risks or opportunities of proposed solution directions.

And of course, the working conditions are also important: Based on a 40-hour workweek, you will receive:

- A good salary, plus a year-end bonus.

- The possibility to flexibly allocate (part of) your secondary benefits with your personal choice budget.

- 28 vacation days, with the option to buy (extra) leave days.

- A remote work arrangement: We provide a good workplace at home and you receive a monthly net internet allowance of €36.10.

- Flexible working: At one of our offices in Arnhem, Delft, Breda, Eindhoven, or Sittard, at home, or at a client location. This international team meets weekly (mandatory) at our office in Delft, periodically alternating with other offices.

- A fun job of 32, 36, or 40 hours per week.
