Your Opportunity: Stantec Buildings is a group of interdisciplinary consultants that work collaboratively to deliver innovative and sustainable projects safely. Your role as an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer and contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work as part of a larger team to execute project design and contract administration. You will be based out of the Markham, ON office. Your key responsibilities include:
- Performing mechanical engineering work (design & drafting) related to transit, institutional, lab and industrial buildings, specifically in the areas of mechanical systems, i.e. HVAC, plumbing and drainage, fire protection & controls
- Conducting engineering/architecture/planning options comparisons by undertaking multi-factor assessments to select preferred cost-effective alternatives
- Preparing contract drawings and specifications in conjunction with project team for delivery to client
- Documenting study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes and reports as a record of events
- Providing direction to project team members and support staff through verbal and written instructions and assign work to appropriate individuals
- Liaise with the clients, consultants, contractors and vendors to obtain project information and to discuss specific design related problems
- Creating and presenting technical reports on the nature, status and results of design or study assignments
- Ability to recognize the implications of assigned work on the work of other disciplines, and ensure the necessary coordination occurs
- Liaising with clients to exchange information re: project progress
- Providing technical judgment
- Conducting business development activities to secure new projects by client liaison and proposal preparation
- Has experience with projects in construction, working with contractors, preparing site visit reports based on review of work on site and defending contract drawings and specifications to ensure project scope is completed
- Certifies professional work
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Strong knowledge of building services, controls, HVAC, plumbing and drainage and fire protection
- Experience in project management
- Experience in energy conservation work, energy modelling and IAQ an asset
- Strong computer skills, ideally including Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
- Experience with quality control and production scheduling is preferred
- Experience working independently, without detailed supervision
- Ability to liaise with clients and contractors
- Ability to manage a team of technical staff is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering
- P.Eng. designation
- 6+ years of experience in designing mechanical systems within the consulting engineering industry
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
