Roads Cad Technician / Technologist

The role of a Roads CAD Technician / Technologist is to work as a team member on small and large projects under close guidance and supervision. Work will include performing a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the plans for structures and facilities such as bridges, railroads, roads, airports, dams and other projects.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Review and interpretation of approved engineering drawings.
  • Review and cross reference of construction grade sheets for issuance to contractors.
  • Provide CAD drafting assistance for a wide variety of projects, from report stage through design and construction administration.
  • Works closely with engineers, project managers and other team members to ensure coordination of drafting effort.
  • Prepare functional, preliminary, and detailed design drawings, presentation materials for bridges, rural/urban roads, interchanges, intersections, and rail.
  • Adheres to the corporate guidelines and applies them in their work.

Your capabilities and credentials include:

  • Ability to work with others on complex projects.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and maintain CAD standards.
  • Takes initiative on tasks.
  • Working knowledge of software programs including AutoDESK, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of Bentley products, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads and REVIT would be a desirable asset but not necessary.
  • Proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam would be a desirable asset.
  • Working knowledge of basic engineering calculations.
  • Basic understanding of roadway design principles and concepts would be a desirable asset.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Enrolled in a civil engineering technologist, municipal design or project management / construction project management program or registered in an engineering undergraduate program, preferably with a Civil Engineering major, in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of their program.
  • A valid driver's license (upgraded to full class 5 driver's license, no GDL).
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.     Pay transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
