Assistant Director Of Student Services

The Division seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Student Services (Student Services Officer 2) with the motivation, skills, and experience to positively impact and maintain the Division's high level of excellence. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Student Services Officer 2 ('SSO2') oversees all functions associated with undergraduate student, graduate student, and postdoctoral scholar support for a varied and international population of about 70 graduate and 250 undergraduate students, spanning over 18 graduate and 18 undergraduate programs. The SSO2 manages one full-time staff member, an Undergraduate Student Services Officer, and works directly and consistently with the Departments and Division leadership, faculty, and staff.

The SSO2 administers, implements, and interprets university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding admission, financial aid, finance aid budget forecasting, housing, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling, and academic services. Identifies, clarifies, and resolves highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. The SSO2's primary duties revolve around university administrative systems. These include but aren't limited to software systems that implement course planning, admissions, degree progress, postdoctoral appointments, and student funding.

The SSO2 works on problems of diverse complexity (size, degree, focus, expertise, breadth, impact), where data analysis involves evaluating identifiable factors. The SSO2 demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The SSO2 networks with senior internal and external contacts in own area of expertise and outside own area of expertise.

The ideal candidate should possess a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and customer-focused mindset and perform with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact.

This is a 100% FTE, continuing exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

Core duties include administering an area or program in student services, evaluating and recommending decisions on program eligibility, collaborating with others to resolve program issues, and providing guidance and counsel to students on a range of issues.

Education & experience: Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include strong communication skills, advanced analysis and problem-solving skills, advanced computer skills, advanced customer service skills, relevant computer systems/technology experience, and understanding of financial transactions.

Physical requirements include frequently sitting and performing desk-based computer tasks, and occasionally standing, walking, twisting, using fine manipulation, grasping, using a telephone, writing by hand, sorting and filing paperwork, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Work standards include demonstrating interpersonal skills and promoting a culture of safety.

The expected pay range for this position is $94,998 to $112,502 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
