Supervisor Environmental Services

This position is responsible for supervising Environmental Services staff to maintain established work schedules and ensure a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment. The supervisor supports Infection Control practices, manages internal moves and special cleaning requests, and applies sound management and interpersonal practices to lead the team effectively.

Work Schedule

  • Regular shift: Monday – Friday, alternating weekends

  • Hours: 5:00 pm – 1:30 am

  • Training (first 6 weeks): 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise Environmental Services Specialists in maintaining cleaning schedules and adhering to established standards.

  • Contribute to environmental services projects and program implementation.

  • Manage space/office changes across campus to ensure proper cleaning and safety compliance.

  • Support development, execution, and monitoring of Environmental Services policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Research and apply innovative techniques to enhance efficiency and improve outcomes in environmental services.

  • Lead, train, mentor, and support team members to ensure high performance.

  • Provide regular feedback, complete evaluations, and foster professional development.

  • Deliver exemplary service by engaging with customers to ensure high-quality results.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental and institutional goals.

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and Training

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Preferably one year of post-high school education in Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or exposure to leadership training and responsibilities.

Minimum Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in environmental services or a related field.

  • Experience implementing and monitoring environmental cleaning policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Demonstrated success in supervising teams, managing resources, and meeting timelines.

  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, laws, and standards.

  • Proven performance in a previous supervisory or leadership role.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to set expectations, review performance, and coach staff.

  • Ability to problem-solve quickly and use data analysis to identify root causes and improve outcomes.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to lead meetings, collaborate cross-functionally, and engage customers effectively.

  • Knowledge of environmental safety standards, sanitation guidelines, and infection control practices.

  • Ability to remain calm and solutions-focused in challenging or uncertain situations.

  • Skilled at motivating teams to deliver high-quality results in changing environments.

  • Physical ability to work in a demanding environment and meet strenuous requirements.

  • Proficiency with digital communication and management tools.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, talk, hear, and reach with arms.

  • Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to meet vision requirements, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

  • Exposure to dust, cleaning chemicals, blood, bodily fluids, disease-causing organisms, and vibrations.

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment.

  • The work environment is often loud and physically demanding.

  • Must comply with all federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.

Compensation: In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $22.00 - $38.50 per hour for the role of Supv-Environmental Services.
