Springer Nature is one of the leading publishers of research in the world. We publish the largest number of journals and books and are a pioneer in open research. Through our leading brands, trusted for more than 180 years, we provide technology-enabled products, platforms and services that help researchers to uncover new ideas and share their discoveries, health professionals to stay at the forefront of medical science, and educators to advance learning. We are proud to be part of progress, working together with the communities we serve to share knowledge and bring greater understanding to the world.

Scientific American, the oldest continuously published magazine in the U.S., reaches millions of people each month through its print magazine, app, social media and on ScientificAmerican.com. We publish expert-written opinions and feature stories; news and feature articles by leading journalists; and award-winning graphics, art and multimedia.

About the Role

Scientific American seeks an experienced senior reporter who can cover their beat across platforms and formats – whether that's a deeply reported investigative feature, a quick breaking news post, a highly produced podcast series, or an off-the-cuff short social video. We want journalists who understand which platform is best for each story and can execute coverage across all of them. We believe that every story has a science angle – their job is to find it and communicate it to our readers in the smartest way possible.

The senior reporter must be the kind of reporter who owns their beat, who knows what's going to happen before it happens, who has the best and brightest contacts in the field, and who has their own devoted readers who know you're the person to follow. We're open to anyone who can show us they are a trusted expert in their area of technology or engineering coverage, but we're particularly excited to find reporters who cover topics including emerging technologies, corporate innovation and R&D, and automation and robotics.

This is a great job for an experienced reporter who wants the freedom to build their brand, and the platform of one of the most trusted names in journalism to help them do it.

This role can be in our New York, Washington DC, or London offices on a hybrid working model.

  2. Be an influencer and essential voice in your chosen area of coverage
