Software Engineer

Join the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) team, where you'll contribute to groundbreaking innovations! We are seeking applicants for a Software Engineer position to join our Strategic Military Space (SMS) Division. This position will often be focused on the integration of satellites with the ground control system. Broad knowledge and ability to understand the larger system is desired. This work tends to interact with customers, partners, and vendors to ensure the entire satellite ground system delivers what is needed for the mission.

The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite and sensor systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Our division is a key component of national security, providing technological solutions and expert mission support. Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements, tests, and maintains code for internal and external customers
  • Plans and provides technical expertise on projects or major phases of significant projects
  • Collaborates with the customer, external and internal partners, external vendors, Program Manager(s), Systems Engineers, and other Developers to meet system design goals
  • May provide operational support for existing systems
  • May evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services
  • May lead small teams and/or projects, including leadership to other members of the team
  • May serve as or support solution architect to ensure new capabilities are cohesively designed to be integrated back into a solution baseline

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance
  • BS or higher degree in engineering or computer science and 3 – 13 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to respond resourcefully to new demands and challenges
  • Understanding of virtualization, containerization, and related technologies
  • The following qualifications are based on years of experience and are expected to range from Proficient to Mastery for this position:
    • Programming languages (C#, C++, Python) and design paradigms
    • Technical skills in the full software engineering lifecycle (requirements, design, etc.)
    • Utilization of diagramming concepts/tools (block diagrams, sequence diagrams, etc.)
    • Proven organization and planning skills
    • Ability to present technical concepts in design reviews to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to junior Engineers
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities (debugging, architecting, etc.)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and utilizing Interface Control Documents (ICD)
  • Understanding of data flow across a TCP/UDP network and how to debug/analyze issues
  • Strength with scripting languages including Python and Ruby
  • Ability to develop, debug, and deploy containerized solutions (Docker, K8S, Helm, etc.)
  • Experience with AWS cloud services (VPC, EKS, ECR, S3, Workspace, etc.)
  • Experience with automation of systems and validation of the automated paths
  • Full-stack software development including experience with a front-end framework (i.e., Angular)

*Salary Range

  • $83,000 - $131,000
  • Salary commensurate based on education and experience
