Job Summary
Provides front-line customer service to patrons at the Access Services Desk while supporting collection management operations for the Gulf Coast Library. Assists students, faculty, staff, and community members with circulation services, basic research inquiries, and use of library resources. Coordinates and processes poster print orders, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely completion.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the daily operations of the Access Services desk. Charges and discharges all library materials accurately. Provides superior customer service and maintains good relations with public community, faculty, staff, and students. Addresses problems for guests patiently and proactively both in person and online.
- Assists patrons in locating materials or refers them to the appropriate location within the library or on the campus. Assists guests with printing, copying, and using library equipment. Identifies and refers complex problems to supervisor.
- Organizes and processes acquired items for all collections within the Gulf Coast Library. Assists Collection Supervisor with book pulls for assessment and weeding. Withdraws weeded items from the collection and processes them for surplus or Better World Books. Creates and updates spine labels when necessary. Assists with minor repairs on library materials. Responsible for shelf-reading collection and physical shifting of items in conjunction with the Circulation Supervisor. May supervise students during stacks maintenance.
- Provides media equipment when requested and regularly reviews equipment procedures. Processes requested and returned media materials. Receives, prepares, and notifies patrons regarding poster orders. Routes patron information to administration.
- Other duties as assigned. Primarily works evenings and Saturday shifts. Serves on committees as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree from an accredited college or university is required; however, one (1) year of relevant customer service experience may be accepted. An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and skills will also be considered. One full-time shift on the weekend. Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Knowledge of customer services principles.
- Familiarity with Microsoft, library software applications, and media equipment.
- Ability to meet the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a library.
