Metering Engineer / Assoc. Meter Engineer / Meter Specialist
Primary job location is at the General Services Headquarters in Forest Park, GA. This position will be filled as a Meter Engineer, Meter Analyst or Meter Specialist depending on the skills, education, and experience qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position reports to the Manager, Metering Services and is primarily responsible for engineering projects. These projects may include design and development, product testing, quality assurance or special projects. This position will also cross-train with Field Personnel including Interchange Meter Specialists responsible for interchange metering, intra-tie metering, Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) load metering, substation metering, and generation/IPP metering.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for application engineering, specifications and testing of meters/meter systems including electronic meters, instrument transformers, data communications interfaces including AMI, Ethernet LAN/WAN or wireless radios on meter products ranging from residential customers up through commercial, industrial, generation and bulk power systems.
- Advanced meter data analysis and verification including AMI data, pulse data, SCADA, energy logs and MV90. - Software quality, performance and compatibility testing including electricity meter vendor application software, meter firmware and related configuration files for correct operation and billing accuracy.
- Product testing of revenue meters and systems and associated software.
- Understand and interpret relevant industry standards and specifications including ANSI C12, UL, NEMA, IEEE, etc.
- Coordinate work with various organizations and stakeholders.
- Project manage engineering projects.
- Provide support to all Metering Services customers, both internal and external.
- Must communicate to other departments and work well with personnel at all levels to be effective in this position.
- Maintain documentation files and records for all projects relating to electricity metering product approvals including design, development, and testing activities.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or industrial) from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred.
- In lieu of technical degree, candidate may qualify with a minimum of five (5) years of specific electric metering experience including meter programming, calibration/testing, application of instrument transformers and intimate knowledge of electric metering products.
Preferred Experience Requirements:
- Prior experience working with electric utility high-end metering including meter calibration/testing and substation equipment.
- Experience with a broad range of electricity meters and vendor software packages including AMI smart meters and high-end meters such as Sensus iConA, Honeywell (Elster) A3, Aclara I-210+c, Schneider ION 8300/8500/8600, Landis + Gyr Focus/Elite, etc.
- Experience with associated meter software packages including Maxcom, ION Enterprise, 1132COM, 1132PROG, Metercat, Metermate, FlexNet Utility or Spotlight.
- Experience with electric utility system components such as revenue meters, SCADA/RTU, transducers, instrument transformers, generating plant systems, substation systems, RS-232/RS-485/DNP3/IP communications preferred.
- Able to demonstrate excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to develop and analyze drawings, blueprints, one-lines, schematics, specifications, proposals, and any other necessary project documentation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Broad knowledge of electricity meters, meter software packages and meter systems.
- Must be able to perform accurate engineering calculations of power system quantities and metering values.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. - Detail oriented.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems to make sound and timely engineering decisions based on experience and appropriate industry practices.

Other:
- Travel which may include overnight trips (based on business needs) - could be up to 25% of time.
- Valid driver's license required and a safe driving record.
- Must be comfortable working alone and able to lift 70 lbs.
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
•Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license).
•Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
