Oracle Hardware Development (OHD) designs and builds industry-leading mission-critical and high-performance cloud servers managed by Oracle ILOM. Our team, GPU Platform ILOM, provides advanced service processor embedded firmware to manage GPU-based cloud servers; we are looking for a self-motivated senior principal firmware/embedded software developer who has well-rounded technical skills to join a fast-paced development team. We always work on the advanced x86, GPU, service processor hardware and software. The team works with multiple functional teams inside OHD and across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure teams. The position is required to develop and triage Oracle ILOM firmware on Oracle NVIDIA GPU hardware. You will be working closely with processor and component vendors as well as other Oracle experts in operating systems, electrical design/validation, diagnostics, and quality engineering. Our engineers participate in every stage from server design, prototyping, development, and debugging through manufacturing and customer support. A Senior Principal Software Engineer should also be able to lead and design advanced server management solutions and frameworks for the latest GPU-based servers, and continue to improve RAS capabilities of the servers.
Responsibilities: As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Desired Knowledge and Skills: 1. Strong C and Python programming language skills. 2. Strong understanding of OS kernel knowledge. 3. 10+ years in firmware development experience. 4. Ability to debug using hardware debuggers, software debuggers, consoles, utilities (system level software simulator). 5. Ability to adopt a changing environment. 6. Strong in communication. 7. Must be a team player and self-starter.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills: 1. Demonstrated critical and creative thinking. 2. Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously. 3. x86 and ARM architecture and UEFI. 4. Working closely with cross-functional teams and with geographically distributed teammates toward execution on agreed project milestones and delivery dates. 5. Development experience on Linux and Windows. 6. Hands-on software development experience in PCIe, SPI, I2C/I3C, IPMI, USB, UART, Ethernet controllers, and MCTP. 7. OOB or In-band System Management experience with exposure to standards IPMI, KCS, DMTF Standards (PLDM, MCTP, Redfish, PMBus, NVMe, etc.) 8. Hands-on firmware development on X86 or ARM Platforms including thermal management, power management, firmware update, device monitoring, and firmware security.
