Service Technician - Class III - IV

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Class 3 Service Technician:

  • Understanding of 5 through 100-ton unitary DX equipment, chilled water air handlers, computer room units (CRAC), pneumatic and DDC controls.
  • Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills on 100 ton and less unitary DX equipment.
  • Capable of all repairs needed on rooftop package equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on air-cooled chillers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair water cooled package equipment.
  • Diagnose problems using electrical schematics.
  • Diagnosing refrigerant system issues.
  • Basic understanding variable frequency drives.
  • Diagnose issues with variable air volume equipment (VAV's/PIU's).
  • Class 4 Service Technician:

    • All skills listed in the Class 3 category above plus the ability to perform trouble shooting and repairs on all types of air-cooled chillers, pumps, and low-pressure boilers.
    • Advanced troubleshooting on all air-cooled equipment, both unitary and chilled water.
    • Basic understanding of water-cooled chillers.
    • Basic understanding of DDC control systems.
    • Capable of maintaining and repairing cooling towers.
    • Ability to diagnose water flow issues.
    • Proficient with variable frequency drives and starters.
    • Proficient with low pressure boilers.

    Qualifications

    Strong written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computer and tablets. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work well in a team environment. Strong adaptability skills.

    Required Experience, Certifications, and Education

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Trade/Technical School certification or degree preferred. Four to five years plus of commercial/industrial HVAC experience including exposure to control, compound and reciprocating systems as well as refrigerants. Experience level is based on technician classifications described above. Valid Driver's License. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 or more pounds, distinguish colors for electrical work and tolerate confined spaces. Work will involve heights and seasonal temperature extremes. Proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required while performing tasks.
