Our tax controversy services team uses an enterprise-wide approach with global tax risk and controversy management to prevent, manage, and resolve tax controversies. You will be at the heart of this effort.

Your Key Responsibilities

Our global tax controversy network is uniquely positioned to help businesses with their tax controversy issues. You will be involved in all aspects of controversy management and dispute resolution including assisting clients before the IRS Exam and Appeals Divisions, penalty relief and abatement requests, and advising on Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Assist in resolving Client IRS account issues, including the following:

  • Drafting Forms 2848 and 8821 for Client signature
  • Reviewing IRS notices, tax returns, and transcripts to identity issues on the account
  • Calling the IRS as a 2848 or 8821 representative to request collection holds, first-time abatements, review the account with an IRS agent, and advocate for resolution of the identified issue
  • Drafting correspondence to the IRS, including:
    • Reasonable Cause penalty abatements
    • Form 843, Claim for Refund and Request for Abatement
    • Form 12153, Request for Collection Due Process or Equivalent Hearing
    • Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund
  • Other miscellaneous tasks, such as:
    • Tax research (Internal Revenue Code, Code of Federal Regulations, Revenue Rulings, etc)
    • Assist with Client Representation and project management within the context of an IRS examination

Skills and Attributes for Success

Researching tax issues to develop effective tax resolution strategies

Translating complex data from a range of sources into client-ready insights and deliverables

Building effective long-term relationships with our clients, understanding their unique needs to provide a tailored service

Communicating complex tax issues to non-tax professionals and clients

To Qualify for the Role You Must Have

A bachelor's degree

Ability to obtain a CPA certification or licensed attorney designation

Work experience in government or a professional tax organization

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

The ability to adapt your work style to work with both internal and client team members

Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment

What We Offer You

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $81,500 to $134,600. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $97,800 to $153,100. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.

Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
