Child Development Center Position

This position will be assigned to the Child Development Center, JB Charleston Air Base in Charleston, SC. The work schedule will be determined by the needs of the activity. Physical Effort: Light to moderate physical effort in lifting up to 45 pounds or pushing carts. Constantly standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching.

Duties and Responsibilities

I. Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving by washing, peeling, scraping and dicing. Cuts and shreds lettuce, slices tomatoes, cuts and shreds vegetables and opens cans. Portions out food by placing uniform amount in small serving dishes.

2. Cleans equipment in kitchen and dining areas. Washes, dishes, pots, pans, and flatware. Operates mechanical dishwasher: Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors. Disposes of food wastes and trash. Will be responsible for setting up serving carts with food, dishes, and utensils for each meal or snack and deliver them to the appropriate classrooms. Will also collect the same serving carts after each meal or snack. Each cart will be sanitized in preparation for the next meal. Will be responsible for laundering any towels or linens used in the kitchen at the end of each day.

3. Moves heavy garbage cans, and assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position is a position of trust.

Controls Over Work

Incumbent is responsible for independently completing work as scheduled after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Supervisor periodically checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions.

1. Skill and Knowledge: Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Ability to concentrate on uniform individual portions and to avoid distraction when several people ask for different items at the same time. Knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food.

2. Physical Effort: Light to moderate physical effort in lifting up to 45 pounds or pushing carts. Constantly standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching.

3. Working Conditions: Working area is subject to noise and uncomfortable heat. May be exposed to extreme temperatures in hot kitchen. Exposure to minor cuts, bruises, and burns. Danger of slipping on floors.

4. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate, and satisfactorily complete installation and state criminal background checks, and National Agency Checks with Inquires. Must pass pre-employment physical. Required to obtain CPR Certification and First Aid.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving foods, or for cleaning equipment and work area. Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal Affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service. Direct deposit is required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check. A probationary period may be required. Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty (EOD).
