The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As Principal Engineer (Injection Moulding) you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Managing fleet of injection moulds & ancillary equipment from capex budgeting to end of life disposal.
• Working with suppliers to manage risk for high volume single point of failure. Implement mitigations as necessary.
• Managing all changes to mould fleet from maintenance to part modifications.
• Ensuring validations are carried out, by supplier & Process engineering internally, when required (e.g. New moulds, modifications, spare part usage etc.) and to an appropriate standard.
• Critically analysing proposals from suppliers for process improvements and ensuring adequate benefit and payback to Solventum.
• Supporting R&D in terms of part design for manufacture, materials selection, appropriate moulding technology for new moulded parts.
• Supporting sustaining engineering for injection moulding and extrusion related projects and if necessary, leading those projects.
• Process expert for injection moulding, extrusion and other plastics processes with a high level of process and product understanding.
• Supporting process issue escalations including root cause investigations and problem-solving involving plastics processes and components.
• Proposes/evaluates and implements solutions with suppliers.
• Responsible for developing additional process capacity at suppliers if required based on the manufacturing production plan
• Responsible for identifying equipment/tooling obsolesce and initiating programs for replacement
• Supporting product Globalization for new geographies.
• Supporting material obsolesce programs

Your Skills and Expertise

Education: Minimum of a level eight degree, preferably in Polymer Engineering and the ability to understand technical data/specifications would be expected.

Experience Previous Experience in a Medical Device or GMP industry would be desirable. Exposure to Medical Device Validation, Lean and Six Sigma would be desirable. Proven track record in Injection Moulding, Extrusion and other Polymer processing techniques. Good understanding of injection mould and extrusion tooling

Skills & Competencies Exhibits technical leadership and maintains a continuous flow of significant technical contributions. Recognised as an expert in multiple plastics processing technologies and tooling. Ability to research and recognise alternative process techniques that can be applied to Solventum products. Ability to communicate effectively across all levels internally and externally (Globally) Establishes intra-divisional interactions to develop technical network and completion of programs Broadens technical base by providing expert advice to other engineers as required. Participates in technical strategic business planning. Identifies problems at supplier sites and works with suppliers to mitigate or eliminate them. Expertise in Equipment and Process Validation Understanding of Process Risk Analysis Expertise in data analysis including Six Sigma Understanding of Lean and Waste Analysis Understanding of safety standards and requirements Mixture of product, process, tooling and equipment expertise Has a methodical approach to problem solving, identifies root cause of technical/quality problem & implements corrective & preventative action

Location: Athlone, Ireland

Work Type: Hybrid Eligible

Job Duties allow for remote working but may require travel to Solventum locations, e.g. 1-day per week (this will be discussed at interview)

Travel: May include up to 10% Domestic and International travel
