Tactical Ops & Air/Weapons Specialist - Senior Class Desk Support

SMX is seeking a Class Desk Support Engineer (Senior) to support the E-2/C-2 Airborne Command and Control Systems Program Office (PMA 231) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. This Program Office provides the E-2C Hawkeye, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Hawkeye 2000 and the C-2A Greyhound fleet ensuring mission readiness for airborne early warning, command, and logistics support. This candidate will deliver engineering and technical support to PMA 231, ensuring airworthiness, risk mitigation, and alignment with Fleet mission needs. The candidate will leverage tactical aviation and military operations experience combined with systems engineering expertise to resolve deficiencies and drive operational readiness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Applies subject matter expertise from experience as a Naval Aviator to identify, define, and document technical data for NATOPS/NATIP products for E-2/C-2 aircraft and associated weapons systems
  • Provides analysis of operational suitability of naval aviation platforms, weapons, sensors, and systems
  • Develops, prepares, and manages material required for the operator to employ or maintain safely and effectively the aircraft and its weapon systems
  • Requires the ability to develop and present Naval Aviation Missions and Capabilities (NAMC) training seminar material to DoD personnel
  • Applies analytic expertise to support technical exchanges, briefings, and workshops in support of recommended tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
  • Provides subject matter expertise for specific aircraft/weapon systems and subsystems to include operational procedures, installation and maintenance, failure analysis, and technical support related to aircraft avionics, airframe, weapons, navigation, fire control, and other aircraft systems
  • Provides advanced technical knowledge and analysis of highly specialized applications and operational environments, detailed functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation, training, troubleshooting, and implementation advice on specific areas that require expert-level knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation
  • Reviews technical problems; provides solutions for software, hardware, and systems; and troubleshoots operating anomalies using data review methodologies and/or automated evaluation programs
  • Analyzes data and solves problems; communicates with peers, subordinates, and senior management; and identifies objects, actions, and events affecting organizational operations
  • Provides project execution, business and technical operations, strategic initiatives, workforce development, business improvement, or as required to support exceptionally complex technical and organizational tasks

Required Skills/Experience

  • BS or BA degree in Business, Management, Technical, or Scientific discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • At least 12 years of recent and relevant professional experience with aircraft tactical systems employment
  • Must be an O-4 or higher
  • Must be a graduate of a Navy Weapons School, Test Pilot School (TPS), or Marine Aviation Weapons Training Squadron-1 (MAWTS-1)
  • Must be a Weapons Tactics Instructor (WTI) with at least one of the following:
    • Navy Pilot or Naval Flight Officer (NFO) with at least 1,000 flight hours
    • Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO)
    • Tactics Officer (TACCO)
    • Weapons Systems Officer (WSO)
    • Head of a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS)
    • Weapons School Instructor
    • A former Department Head or Officer in Charge (OIC) with Level IV WTI
  • A graduate from:
    • Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School (CAEWWS)
    • Electronic Attack Weapons School (EAWS)
    • Intelligence Schools

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experienced in providing Class Desk support, including coordination with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Fleet stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of Fleet operations, Fleet Issues, Fleet Deficiencies, operator needs, mission environments
  • Knowledge of NAVAIR engineering policies, processes, and technical review requirements
  • Expertise in supporting Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) and developing engineering documentation such as risk assessments, safety reports, and technical plans
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate program risks, resolve technical issues, and communicate effectively across program leadership levels
  • Background in supporting acquisition lifecycle phases, from requirements development through sustainment
  • Experience in working on Flight Clearances, Airworthiness issues, Requirements Management, Risk Management, and Configuration Management
  • Systems Safety experience to support the Systems Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings

The proposed salary for this position is:

$103,100 - $175,800 USD
