Tactical Operations and Air/Weapons Specialist, Sr - H-1 Platform Stores Integration SME (4760)

SMX is seeking a Tactical Operations and Air/Weapons Specialist (Senior) to support the USMC Light/Attack Helicopter Programs Office (PMA 276) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD.

PMA-276 manages the cradle to grave procurement, development, support, fielding and disposal of the Marine Corps rotary wing close air support, anti-armor, armed escort, armed/visual reconnaissance and fire support program systems.

This position requires a minimum DoD secret security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceives, plans, organizes and supports the H-1 weapons and store integration activities, including conducting engineering analyses, test and evaluation of weapon systems, related subsystems and components for projects covering the entire life cycle and acquisition phases from concept development and testing to production and decommissioning
  • Coordinates and conducts projects assigned by the Platform/Stores Integration competency manager and in support of the Program Manager and IPT leaders
  • Develop requirements and store integration plans to ensure total weapon system performance
  • Coordinates project financial and administrative matters with project team leaders and the PSI competency manager
  • Responsible for managing and executing the airworthiness process for all store integration activities
  • Coordinates data requirements with airworthiness subject matter experts and ensures they meet established NAVAIR airworthiness requirements
  • Reviews flight clearances for technical accuracy and safety of flight
  • Reviews and prepares project directives, contract deliverables, detail specifications, test and evaluation master plans (TEMPs), contractor design approaches and results of contractor development testing to obtain an overall background and to identify possible integration problem areas
  • Prepares project correspondence such as test plans, technical reports, letters, and memorandums
  • Establishes and maintains communication with project team leaders, NAVAIRSYSCOM officials, competency management and IPT team members
  • Provides briefings and presentations as directed by project team leaders
  • Serves as Navy, IPT and store integration department representative during participation at conferences, design reviews, program meetings, mockup reviews, seminars and symposia
  • Provides technical inputs and prepares appropriate correspondence and reports such as trip reports, meeting action items, etc.
  • Key projects and weapons supported include 20MM Gun Turret Gun Mount System, Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS), Hellfire missile (AGM-114), Intrepid Tiger Pod (ALQ-231), Joint Air-Ground Missile (JAGM), AIM-9X and Precision Attack Strike Munition (PASM) integration

Required Skills/Experience

  • BS or BA degree in Business, Management, Technical, or Scientific discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Active DoD Security Clearance or higher
  • Twelve (12) plus years of recent and relevant professional experience with aircraft tactical systems employment with demonstrated technical depth to understand and interpret technical concepts, approaches, and capabilities utilizing weapons and stores operationally showing an understanding of systems interaction of various air system components and project their influence on the operational capability
  • Experience that demonstrates an understanding of USMC Rotary aircraft and Weapons
  • Prior military experience in USMC with operational experience to provide the inputs required to successfully integrate and field a product preferred
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of how weapon systems are managed and utilized in the field
  • Must be an O-4 or higher
  • Graduate of a Navy Weapons School, Test Pilot School (TPS), or Marine Aviation Weapons Training Squadron-1 (MAWTS-1)
  • Weapons Tactics Instructor (WTI) with at least one of the following:
    • USMC Naval Aviator with at least 1,000 flight hours
    • Tactics Officer (TACCO)
    • Weapons Systems Officer (WSO)
    • Head of a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS)
    • Weapons School Instructor
    • A former Department Head or Officer in Charge (OIC) with Level IV WTI

The proposed salary for this position is:

$112,600 - $187,600 USD
