Controls Automation Engineer (Siemens PLC)
Sirius Talent is partnering with a leading life sciences organization to hire a Controls Automation Engineer supporting advanced automation systems and equipment. This role is heavily focused on Siemens PLC and HMI programming, supporting full lifecycle automation projects including development, testing, commissioning, and customer support in a highly technical environment.
Location: Carlsbad, CA (Hybrid/Onsite)
Schedule: Standard business hours (project-based flexibility)
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: Up to $72/hour
Mandatory Requirements
Candidates will NOT be considered or submitted unless ALL of the following are met:
- 5+ years of hands-on Siemens PLC programming experience (non-negotiable)
- Direct experience with Siemens HMI systems
- Ability to support onsite commissioning/startup activities
- Experience with industrial automation and process control systems
- Understanding of electrical schematics and process diagrams
- Experience with fluid and/or pneumatic systems (valves, transmitters, etc.)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and program Siemens PLC and HMI systems for automated equipment
- Modify, test, and validate control software prior to deployment
- Lead and support startup and commissioning at customer sites
- Troubleshoot automation systems and resolve technical issues
- Provide technical training to operators and maintenance teams
- Support post-installation service, warranty, and system optimization
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in chemical or life sciences manufacturing environments
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
- Hybrid role depending on project phase
- Onsite work required during commissioning/startup
- Exposure to plant environments; PPE may be required
