Field Service Diesel Fitter

We currently have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and capable Field Service Diesel Fitter to join the Mackay based Field Service Department supporting a customer's ancillary equipment fleet comprising D10T and D11T track-type tractors, 16M and 24M motor graders and additional ancillary and support equipment.
Ideally, you will bring strong experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining the same or similar Caterpillar equipment. You will join an existing on site team of 3 Field Service Fitters and 2 Leading Hands.
Position highlights:
- Ancillary Fleet Support – Peak Downs Mine.
- Large Track-Type Tractor and Motorgrader experience essential.
- 7 on 7 off roster – Alternating Dayshift/Nightshift.
- Flights supplied by BHP to/from Brisbane
- Bus transport to/from Moranbah/Peak Downs.
- Camp accommodation and meals supplied.

What you'll be doing:
As a Field Service Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:
- Deliver exceptional customer outcomes – carry out all maintenance and repairs to the highest possible standard to maximise customer satisfaction.
- Use accurate service information – research and consult the most current service information systems to follow correct procedures, instructions and specifications.
- Ensure quality workmanship – take all reasonable steps to eliminate faulty workmanship and deliver a high‑quality finished product.
- Prevent rework – complete repairs in line with appropriate control guidelines to ensure jobs are done right the first time.
- Meet performance targets – complete all assigned tasks within required target timeframes.
- Engage customers in key decisions – involve customers in high‑value repair or replacement decisions and keep them informed of progress throughout the job.
- Support genuine parts solutions – promote the use of genuine parts and provide guidance and advice to customers when requested.
What you'll need:
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Build strong technical foundations – bring three to five years' post‑trade experience in the mining industry, working specifically on large mining equipment.
- Hold the right trade credentials – be trade qualified with proven Caterpillar equipment experience.
- Diagnose with precision – confidently use Caterpillar diagnostic systems including ET, VIMS, SIMSi and SIS to identify and resolve faults efficiently.
- Work across large & ultra‑class fleets – demonstrate extensive hands‑on experience with Caterpillar large and ultra‑class surface mining equipment.
- Commit to safety excellence – maintain a consistently high standard of workplace health and safety in all tasks and environments.
- Perform under pressure – operate effectively during peak periods while meeting quality and time expectations.
- Operate independently in the field – manage work autonomously with strong time management and decision‑making skills.
- Leverage strong computer capability – use digital systems and tools confidently for reporting, diagnostics and communication.
- Communicate with clarity and professionalism – build strong working relationships through outstanding written and verbal communication.
- Bring site‑ready experience – Caterpillar dealership and mine site experience will be highly regarded.
