Assistant Human Resources Manager

At DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, we are looking for an Assistant Human Resources Manager to join our talented Human Resources team.

Our hotel offers the award-winning rooftop bar LuminAir, the vibrant new WE ARE EDN restaurant and bar, Amsterdam's most extensive breakfast buffet, and an in-house LOT61 coffee store. Our recently refurbished 557 guest rooms and 15 versatile meeting rooms, make our hotel a dynamic and exciting place to work.

From recruitment and onboarding to employee training and engagement, you will play a key role in ensuring our team members are happy, motivated, and well-equipped to provide exceptional guest experiences.

In a team of 5 HR colleagues, you will ensure a great Team Member experience for all 300+ Team Members. More specifically, you will take on the following responsibilities:

  • Build and execute the HR strategy and year planning and make sure these are kept alive throughout the year.
  • Support the departmental (assistant) managers to ensure the success of their teams.
  • Ensure the recruitment and selection process is efficient but also warm and personalized to attract the right candidates for a long-term commitment.
  • Identify training needs in the hotel and support with training requirements, either through external trainings, Hilton trainings or setting up your own workshops with local partners.
  • Manage Team Member conversations and challenges in a confidential and supportive manner.
  • Provide accurate reporting and HR statistics, draw conclusions from these statistics and establish effective follow up and action plans.
  • Work with local organizations and schools to promote the hospitality industry.
  • Manage absenteeism in the hotel by supporting the department heads, focusing on preventative measures and coaching Team Members.
  • Drive communication internally and externally through internal communication tools and (departmental) meetings.
  • Drive Team Member recognition programs with frequent and personal attention to individual or team achievements, celebrate work anniversaries, organizing Team Member events.
  • Be involved in HR projects to ensure we remain innovative, inclusive, and involved in all Team Member aspects.
  • Ensure pay reviews/absence monitoring/wage queries are managed in line with company guidelines
  • Support the hotel with departmental training requirements and ensure completion of training for hotel security, fire regulations and other health and safety legislation

To successfully fill this role, we are looking for a person with the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent Dutch and English language skills (written and oral).
  • Previous (assistant) managerial experience – in HR and/or the hospitality industry is a plus, but we are looking for a strong people person and a natural motivator.
  • Positive self-starter who can work independently and enjoys carrying out projects to a successful completion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role. You must be able to communicate effectively with employees and management.
  • Committed to delivering a high level of customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Personal skills: You must have strong personal skills to build relationships with your colleagues, managers and people outside the hotel.
  • Looks for areas that need improvement and pro-actively comes up with ideas – not afraid of change and trying out new ways.
  • Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations.
  • Knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Attention to detail: attention to detail is important in this role as you will need to ensure that all HR processes and procedures are followed correctly
