The iconic Waldorf Astoria property in New Orleans, The Roosevelt, is seeking an Assistant Director of Property Operations (Engineering) to join the team!
Our luxury hotel offers an unparalleled combination of Southern hospitality, world-class service and historic surroundings. As the centerpiece of the city, the hotel is located near the French Quarter and within walking distance to the city's most vibrant attractions and entertainment, including Jackson Square, Bourbon Street and the Arts & Warehouse District.
Embodying the rich heritage of Southern hospitality, the historic hotel features 504 rooms, over 60,000 square feet of meeting space, and five (5) food and beverage outlets. This includes 2 restaurants, a café, seasonal rooftop bar, and in-room dining.

An Assistant Director of Property Operations (Engineering) is responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing the functionality and safety of the facility to protect the well-being of all guests and team members in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Support Company's philosophy and company culture.
- Ensure all maintenance practices are conducted appropriately by exercising the SOP and P&P developed by the Director of Engineering/Property Operations.
- Supervise the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel.
- Ensure operation and maintenance is conducted using appropriate materials and practices based on the Engineering Policy and Procedures.
- Maintain all equipment and systems functioning to its optimum benefit.
- Perform preventive maintenance work in kitchen equipment, guest rooms, spa, public areas, banquet areas and Hotel mechanical equipment.
- Assist in overseeing scheduling for hotel Engineers.
- Perform and oversee routine operation, preventive maintenance, and repairs of hotel systems (Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Structural) as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all Spa equipment.
- Work with BMS (Building Maintenance System) on a daily basis.
- Execute and oversee miscellaneous carpentry projects and repairs.
- Interface with other hotel departments, i.e. Front Desk, Housekeeping, F&B, Security and PBX.
- Maintain records of work completed.
- Report depleted inventory of parts and supplies.
- Observe proper workplace safety precautions.
- Participate in proper safety precautions including fire drills as part of the Emergency Response Team.
- Attend department meetings and training sessions.
- Perform incidental tasks as needed.
- Maintain all blueprints in order and trained engineers on them.
- Conducted several safety trainings as lockout tag out, electrical safety, platforms, ladder safety, back safety, use of PPE.
- Supervise Semi-Annual testing of kitchen fire suppression system.
- Coordinate preventive room maintenance program with departments such as Housekeeping, Front office etc. to maintain the luxury status.
- Implement engineering policy & procedures developed by Waldorf Astoria A management.
- Participate in all aspects of safety procedures and practices, working directly with the Director of Security.
- Keep records and documentation up to date of all the Engineering safety and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate with all departments including residential on day-to-day operations.
- Conduct and participate in meetings, seminars, training etc.
- Work side by side with the security department on testing all the building fire safety equipment.
- Coordinate and supervise renovation projects throughout the Hotel and complete on target dates as planned.
- Perform, assign, supervise and perform a physical inspection of daily tasks and projects to the engineering mechanics.
- Monitor HotSOS to ensure the correct departmental workflow.
- Oversee the elevator contractor to ensure proper maintenance of the hotel elevators.
- Schedule outside contractors as approved by the Director of Property Operations (Engineering).
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical skills necessary to interpret electrical, mechanical and building systems.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems with the ability to analyze their design and intent and performance.
- Considerable knowledge of construction and building systems.
- Ability to analyze trends in utility consumption report and predict energy forecast and to set up energy conservation programs.
- Ability to write and speak the English language to comprehend and communicate job functions to engineering staff.
- Ability to perform duties in confined space and in awkward positions.
- Ability to remain calm in an emergency situation and to effectively deal with internal and external customers.
- Ability to instruct and assist subordinates and accomplish goals on a timely basis.
- Ability to translate technical information or problems into layman's terms.
- Finger and hand dexterity to manipulate switches and buttons, a computer keyboard and a 10-key calculator.
EDUCATION
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Must possess excellent coordination and interactive skills.
- A minimum of 3-5 years involvement of high-end property management required.
- Must possess excellent knowledge of major building systems.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Must obtain a class 2 or higher Stationary Engineers Boilers Certificate required by local jurisdiction.
- Must obtain a class 2 or higher Stationary Engineers Air Conditioning Certificate required by local jurisdiction.
- Must obtain a class 2 or higher Stationary Engineers Boiler Certificate required by local jurisdiction.
- Perform and record water treatment readings from all required systems.
- Experience in a luxury environment, highly desirable.
