Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, is hiring for a Senior Manufacturing Engineering Technician to support manufacturing processes activities at our HQ in Palo Alto, California. In this role you will ensure we deliver the highest quality products to our customers and patients, at the lowest cost and quickest lead time.

This role is 100% onsite in Palo Alto, California

This is a swing shift working M-F 11am-8pm

What You Will Do:

  • Publish and maintain manufacturing, test, and rework instructions.
  • Assess manufacturing efficiency by analyzing process flow and performance data.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to better understand failure modes and implement countermeasures and permanent process improvements.
  • Assist engineering in evaluating and defining requirements for manufacturing and test systems and processes.
  • Provide support to manufacturing in conducting the evaluation of nonconforming product and process related issues using a risk-based approach to resolve problems.
  • Serve as a manufacturing process SME that partners with R&D for DfM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback, solving complex issues, and releasing new products.
  • Maintain records and reporting systems according to the company standards and industry regulations.
  • Independently manage work center processes documentation, rework support, tool troubleshooting, and improvement implementation.
  • Actively coach less experienced team members and provides oversight for projects and daily work.
  • Order tools and equipment as required.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required, on short notice

What You Will Have:

  • High school diploma with 8+ years of related experience in a production technician or engineering technician role and basic knowledge of electronics.
  • Experience in Medical Devices or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience working from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and electrical trouble-shooting functions.
  • Proficiency using manufacturing, test, or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
  • Proficiency in creating, reviewing, and editing of relevant technical documents (manufacturing instructions, drawings, IMTE's, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, test, or production processes, including manual and power tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with technicians and engineers.
  • Proficiency with various software (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams; SAP, PDF editor)

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Lean / Six Sigma training
  • Engineering, technical associate degree or equivalent (military, trade school, etc.)
  • Formal technical writing training or equivalent experience
  • Process validation training (IQ, OQ, PQ, TMV)
  • Knowledge of engineering change notices (EC), Discrepancy Reports (DR), rework instructions, product structures and bills of material (BOM)
  • Non-conformance processing (Qnotes, Process Deviations, MRB)
  • High voltage system knowledge, including safety considerations
  • Calibration & lab coordination

The annual base pay for this position is: Min $88,400 - Max $132,500. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
