EVS/Sterile Supply Technician

The EVS/Sterile Supply Technician will clean, sterilize, decontaminate and assemble equipment, supplies, and instruments according to prescribed procedures and techniques. Wraps, labels, and seals instruments and supplies in preparation to autoclaving. Maintains inventories and provides to appropriate department heads. The EVS/Sterile Supply Technician will:

  • Performs general housekeeping responsibilities such as moping, dusting, vacuuming, carpet shampooing and other related duties.
  • Cleans and polishes sinks, tubs, mirrors and similar equipment; replenishes supplies of soap, towels, toilet paper and other dispensable items.
  • Strips, buffs and applies wax to floors in designated areas on a routine basis.
  • Picks up trash and empties wastebaskets from and transports to designated location outside building; cleans waste receptacles.
  • Cleans and/or chemically disinfects walls, ceilings, windows, radiators and blinds in patient rooms, hallways and other areas.
  • Moves and arranges furniture/equipment in an orderly fashion. Sets up required meeting and functional rooms.
  • Maintains outside grounds during summer months and may operate snow plow tractor for snow removal during winter months.
  • Removes soiled bed linen from assigned areas; makes beds with fresh linen in prescribed manner at patient discharge.
  • Decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and store procedure trays, instruments and supplies according to aseptic technique in adherence to safety and infection control standards.
  • Provide supplies and equipment to patient care areas.
  • Identify and address missing or broken equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Identify instruments for re-processing upon shelf-life expiration.
  • Perform quality assurance and biological tests on equipment and processes.
  • Document activities and quality test results.
  • Maintain inventories and provides to appropriate department heads.
  • Educate new employees on the sterilization process.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to EVS Ops Manager
  • Secondary Report to Manager of Infection Prevention

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • National (CBSPD) or International (IAHCSMM) certification within 2 years of employment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with thorough knowledge of aseptic technique, sterilization techniques and procedures, and infection control.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including inventory management software
  • At least one year of healthcare experience strongly desired

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Able to lift at least 25lbs to waist
  • Must be able to wear PPE

Pay and Benefits*:

Pay Range: $28 per hour
