Senior AI Engineer

Impact

As a Senior AI Engineer on the AI Platform team, you will design, build and scale AI infrastructure and tooling that empowers data scientists, engineers and product teams across Shipt to bring AI first products and features to our customers. This is a highly impactful position where you'll shape the foundations of our AI capabilities and help accelerate innovation across the organization. In this role you will develop internal tooling and libraries using AI tools and frameworks, create integrations with LLM gateways, agent frameworks, and structured output systems to improve AI-powered applications and contribute to the design of scalable infrastructure for large-scale data processing and model serving. You will partner closely with engineers and data scientists and collaborate with product and operations teams to delivery AI capabilities that power real-world logistics, retail and customer experiences.

What You'll Need To Be Successful

Strong proficiency in Python, with experience across modern AI/ML ecosystems.

Hands-on experience building with AI development tools such as MCP servers/clients, PydanticAI, LangGraph, LiteLLM, or similar AI platforms or tools.

Background in developing infrastructure and tooling that supports engineering and data science teams.

Experience with observability and monitoring systems for ML (e.g., MLflow, Weights & Biases, or similar).

Solid understanding of the data science workflow, from data ingestion and feature engineering to experimentation, deployment, and monitoring.

Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized development (Docker, Kubernetes).

Have an AI first mindset and passion, with curiosity to learn and leverage AI in all aspects of your work.

Strong collaboration skills and a passion for building platforms that enable others to do their best work.

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Pay range: Metro Areas of Boston, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York City: $123,000-$247,000 All other locations: $109,000-$219,000 Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
