Responsible for providing neuropsychological services (assessment, intervention, consultation and education, feedback) to patients, families, hospital staff at Shepherd Center.

Job Responsibilities

Completes timely initial assessment of persons admitted to inpatient or outpatient Shepherd Center programs, as appropriate to job placement, as evidenced by completed documentation in the medical record, according to departmental documentation guidelines.

Develops timely assessment and treatment plan as evidenced by completed documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Displays knowledge and understanding of the range of assessments, treatments, and interventions appropriate for various age and cultural/ethnic groups, as well as various injury types and severity.

Displays ability to disseminate information to staff and patient's/family members in terms of the needs based on age or cultural considerations.

Completes outpatient neuropsychological assessments in an efficient manner and submits neuropsychological report to HIM for upload to EMR within 21 days of the completion of testing.

Schedules, completes, and documents neuropsychological feedback promptly and with consideration for the patient's preferences.

Schedules, completes and documents interventions (individual-family-group) in a timely manner as evidenced by appropriate documentation in the medical record in accordance with department guidelines.

Provides timely staff consultation and education to staff regarding neuropsychological consequences of and problems associated with neurological disease or psychiatric illness as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and/or communication with staff via email regarding the behavior plan.

Regularly attends MD team meetings and contributes, as appropriate.

Participates actively in peer consultation and neuropsychology team meetings through presentation of complex cases and generation of thought-provoking questions and comments.

Participates in staff/department/peer review/case conference/fellowship/hospital/committee meetings effectively by providing relevant input, listening to others, offering solutions to problems and serving as a positive role model for other team members.

Demonstrates commitment for learning and staying abreast of the current neuropsychological literature/research through identifying own learning needs, seeking out additional educational opportunities, participating in student teaching and pursuing continuing education necessary to maintain specialty expertise and licensure as evidenced by submission of CE credit reports to the licensure board on a biannual basis.

Actively participates in the Neuropsychology research program by assisting in recruitment and submission of neuropsychological evaluation data for the Shepherd Center Neuropsychology Data Registry.

Evidence effective research planning and implementation skills as evidenced by generation of research goals, compilation of data, analysis of information, and submission of articles/posters for publication/presentation.

Accurately enters billing charges for all patient and family encounters in a timely fashion. Responds to billing questions promptly.

Maintains an open-door policy for staff issues related to patients. Is accessible to staff for patients' needs by responding promptly to pages/emails, being open and available for co-treatment of patients, and arranging for appropriate coverage when unavailable.

Provides coverage notes and team reports to facilitate continuity of patient and family care during planned absences.

Maintains service delivery productivity consistent with that specified by the Director of Neuropsychology as reflected in productivity reports. Provides evidence-based clinical education, training, and supervision of doctoral neuropsychology practicum students and postdoctoral neuropsychology fellows that follows procedures established by Shepherd Center and the standard of affiliating institutions, as well as the Houston Conference Guidelines.

Provides supervision and feedback to psychometrists, as necessary.

Demonstrates professional interpersonal skills by maintaining professionalism in all interactions, has effective conflict resolution, accepts constructive critical feedback in a non-defensive manner and maintains confidentiality, as appropriate, in all interactions.

Communicates pertinent information to the appropriate team members using appropriate channels in a professional manner. Inter-and intra-departmental misunderstandings are rare and quickly addressed and corrected.

Exhibits effective use of time and resources. Demonstrates flexibility, sets priorities and delegates when necessary. Able to take on additional tasks/accountabilities and offers assistance to others as able.

Participates in additional roles to support the Shepherd Mission (e.g., presents to external organizations regarding advances in neuropsychology or brain injury, develops and maintains a strong working relationship with the external community in order to support adequate flow of external referrals to the department, regular attendance at Shepherd Center fund raisers or functions, participation on a center-wide committee community presentations, departmental work groups, contribution(s) to program development, participation in training beyond fellowship and local university expectations).

Conforms to Shepherd Center's business and practice ethics guidelines.

Required Minimum Education

Graduate of an APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology.

Completion of an APA-accredited internship.

Completion of specialized predoctoral and postdoctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology which meets APA Division 40 and Houston Conference guidelines.

Required Licensure

Licensed to practice medicine in Georgia.

Required Minimum Certification

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum of two (2) years' experience in neuropsychology.

Hospital-based experience.
