Project Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer to join Service Stream team bases in our Ferntree Gully office.

About the Role

The Project Engineer takes strong personal ownership of small projects or subsets of larger projects through stages of the project management life-cycle including safely and profitably delivering and closing out projects in accordance with Comdain's project management systems. In doing so, the Project Engineer consults and coordinates with other key personal in the efficient management of resources and mitigation of risks.

Nature of position: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Ferntree Gully, Melbourne

Reporting Line: Account Manager

Key Responsibilities

The principal objective of this position is to undertake work including, but not limited to, the areas as identified below.

This document should be read in conjunction with the associated Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Management Plan.

Mobilising Projects:

  • Conduct Tender Handover meeting (if PM bidding job is not delivering the job);
  • Review Contract Documents;
  • Develop the Project Management Plan including the project control metrics for monitoring safety, time, cost and quality progress;
  • Establish project team and organise their activities prior to project commencement;
  • Carry out all Project Pre-Commencement requirements (as required by the client, Comdain's own procedures and/or relevant authorities);
  • Establish the project budget;
  • Develop/confirm the Construction Program;
  • Coordinate with relevant managers (internal and external) for the commitment/allocation of resources (people, plant, equipment, procurement, subcontractors, suppliers) to meet the program

Delivering Projects:

  • Leadership of the Project team ensuring cohesion and collaboration;
  • Delivering the project in a way that prevents harm;
  • Client liaison and reporting;
  • Contract administration (including project communications, document management and records management);
  • Managing/monitoring progress/performance against safety, time, cost and quality targets and adjusting to achieve successful outcomes including monthly forecasting of time and cost outcomes at project completion;
  • Managing/monitoring of delivery against scope/contract obligations – recognising, preparing, submitting and negotiating variations and other contractual claims such as latent conditions, extension of time in accordance with contract requirements;
  • Project reporting (Internal and client) including but not limited to safety, financial (including cash and debtors), risk, delivery and, relationship;
  • Project billing and claims management;
  • Sub-contractor/supplier management;
  • Stakeholder management;

Closeout of Projects:

  • Achievement of timely project completion;
  • Submission of all documents required at completion such as as-builts, manuals etc;
  • Attainment of client acknowledgement of Practical Completion;
  • Return of security at Practical Completion
  • Management of rectification of defects;
  • Final Payment Claim / Return of Security;
  • Comdain Close-out Procedures;
  • Lessons Learnt Feedback to Estimating / BD
  • Project records and archiving

Health, Safety Environment and Quality on Projects:

  • Undertake HSEQ activities relevant at a Project Management level including, but not limited to;
  • HAZOB's;
  • JSA's;
  • Audits;
  • Incident investigations

General:

Delivering all projects to budget in accordance with Comdain's policies and management systems;

  • Participate in Management activities as and when required;
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of Comdain's Project Management processes;
  • Ensure efficient and effective resource allocation and utilisation;
  • Comply with project controls including, project scheduling as a service to construction, project scheduling as a tool to demonstrate delay and disruption, monitoring and reporting progress, cost and productivity, project cost forecasting and management of changes to the scope of work;
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with key client personnel;

About You

This opportunity will suit a highly motivated and outcome driven individual who has a passion for delivering positive client outcomes, and a knack for effective stakeholder engagement.

  • Graduate level through to 5 years' experience within the Civil Constructions industry
  • Previous experience within the relevant and local utilities environment (advantageous)
  • Gas main/pipe laying, utilities construction, civil construction, or contractor management (advantageous).

Qualifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent (advantageous)

Licenses / Registrations / Professional Memberships

  • Driver's license valid in the state of operation.
  • Construction industry induction card 'white card'.

Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local building codes and safety laws.
  • Advanced math skills and the ability to understand "abstract" principles behind math and physics.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Accounting software.
  • Ability to work with Mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams.
  • Ability to deal diligently, patiently, and professionally with internal stakeholders, clients, sub-contractors, and suppliers.
  • Self-starter, able to determine own priorities and manage work accordingly. Analytical with ability to identify and suggest areas for process improvement and drive efficiency.
