USV Vessel Engineer

Serco is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic team member to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy. The USV Vessel Engineer will be serving on a dynamic team, supporting U.S. Navy autonomous systems. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our Sailors. This is a Full-Time position supporting Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) San Diego CA. This position supports a broad portfolio of Autonomous Maritime System (AMS) programs in the geographic region onboard a fast-growing local team.

This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain/transfer an active DoD Secret security clearance.

You will be part of our Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology systems. You will provide technical support for our customer as part of an integrated team.

The USV Vessel Engineer provides support in operating, troubleshooting, and repairing major power generations systems, including vessel main propulsion, electrical power generation and distribution, and auxiliary systems, Manages planned maintenance periods, Troubleshoots problems within project/program, providing analysis and solution recommendations. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reports to a Program Manager or head of a unit/department under limited to no supervision. This position will support onsite Naval Base San Diego.

In this role, you will:

  • Review and monitor specifications, standards, technical data and instructions relating to support of all PMS420/MPSF MCM-USVs, trailers, loose equipage and develop recommendations for improvements.
  • Maintain current all PMS420/MPSF standard operating procedures, desk guides, maintenance documents, Class Maintenance Plans, and process flows to reflect logistics, maintenance, operation, and sustainment requirements.
  • Participate in PMS420/MPSF conducted or hosted MCM MP engineering, maintenance, logistics, and quality meetings, review boards, and technical conferences.
  • Provide proofing/validation of equipment alterations for evaluation and acceptance back into government inventory. Monitor and verify first equipment installation on all PMS420/MPSF craft.
  • Determine and analyze all craft, equipment and systems design, and maintenance problems through condition assessments, INSURV reports, and other recommendations.
  • Support equipment onload and offload events as required.
  • Execute future scheduled Preventive Maintenance Availabilities (PMAVs) on MCM-USV craft in homeports and deployed locations.
  • Start or complete MCM-USV Restricted Availabilities on debarked MPs. Includes 4 planned Boat Yard Availabilities during the year.
  • Execute emergent corrective maintenance and CASREP responses for Deployed MPs.
  • Execute Ship Maintenance Plan corrective actions during PMAVs or other Windows of Opportunity. Maintain a Quality Assurance Process of contractor performed maintenance and repairs.
    • 1-12: Execute Planned Maintenance of MCM-USV during PMAVs and pre-embark RFI. (1B4B)
    • 1-13: Provide Fleet Tech Assist and Corrective Maintenance Support of MCM MP Equipment (MCM-USV) (1B4B)
    • 1-17: Execution of MCM-USV embarks and debarks IAW Initiating Includes Pre Embark Ready for Issue Checks at MPSF or MMRCs (MCM-USV). (1B4B)
    • 1-18: Assist in MM Restricted Availabilities or send equipment to depots post debark. (1B4B)
    • 2-13: Execute MCM-USV In-Service Maintenance & Sustainment (embarks/debarks)
    • 2-14: Execute Planned Maintenance of MCM-USV MP Equipment during PMAVs and pre-embark RFI.
    • 2-15: Provide Fleet Tech Assist and Corrective Maintenance Support of MCM-USV MP Equipment (MCM-USV)
    • 2-19: Execution of MCM-USV MP embarks and debarks IAW Initiating Includes Pre Embark Ready for Issue Checks at MPSF or MMRCs (MCM-USV).

To be successful in the role, you will need:

  • An active DoD active Secret clearance.
  • A Bachelors degree and 5 years of experience or a High school diploma and 10 years of experience.
  • A current valid U.S. passport is required.
  • Experience in maritime maintenance.
  • To be able to interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics and drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of common hand and power-driven tools.
  • To work with minimum supervision under a variety of conditions.
  • A minimum 25% travel CONUS/OCONUS.
  • Logistics experience in military and maritime maneuvers is preferred.

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary for this role is $93,535.65 to $155,892.76, however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
