Mechanical Lead Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Lead Engineer MLE to join our client, a global player in the transport sector.

Your mission

As a Mechanical Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the coordination and management of mechanical engineering activities and general studies on a project or tender. You will ensure the quality, costs, deadlines, and technical compliance of mechanical and architectural deliverables, in close liaison with the different stakeholders.

Your responsibilities

Mechanical and layout responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the entire layout of trains and cars: cabin, climate comfort, video surveillance, pictograms, coupling, roof and chassis equipment, pantograph, access, etc.
  • Pilot the mechanical design and its integration into the train environment taking into account manufacturability, maintenance, performance, and safety constraints.
  • Propose a design concept compliant with business rules and current standards.

General studies and architecture:

  • Be the guarantor of the preliminary 3D allocation of train/car volumes for the architecture of subsystems.
  • Ensure the Gauge and Kinematics activities, as well as Mass and Centering, and coordinate their dissemination to the relevant parties.
  • Participate in the definition of the mechanical architecture with the TAM (Train Architecture Manager), taking into account weight, gauge, and technical interfaces.

Piloting and coordination:

  • Plan and pilot the activities of General Studies (planning, resources, deliverables).
  • Supervise a design team (3-4 people) and coordinate mechanical contributors.
  • Follow the design reviews (DRCL) and implement corrective actions.

Deliverables and validation:

  • Validate the mechanical domain deliverables (installations, gauges, mass, allocated volumes, wagon/bogie kinematics).
  • Transmit the validated elements to the project stakeholders.
  • Define and follow the certification and validation plans associated.

Support & continuous improvement:

  • Accompany the sourcing, industrialization, and manufacturing teams during the ramp-up of production.
  • Participate in the definition of the mechanical PBS (Product Breakdown Structure) of the project.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of practices, in liaison with the Head of the General Studies Domain.

Qualifications

  • Master in mechanical engineering or equivalent, at least 5 years of experience in mechanical integration within a design bureau in the transport sector, ideally in the railway sector.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical design and integration.
  • Knowledge of Catia V5 for modeling and solution PDM for managing the digital mockup (DMA, enovia, teamcenter....)
  • A structured and organized practical approach.
  • English at a professional level, to be used mainly for reading and writing documents and for conducting technical meetings orally.
