We're Hiring: Maintenance Engineer – Rail Freight Field-Based | UK Rail Network 12-Day Rotating Shift Pattern | Full-Time - Permanent

Are you a skilled Maintenance Engineer ready to take on a dynamic, field-based role in the rail freight sector?

Join a team that keeps the UK's freight wagons moving with precision, safety, and speed. As a Maintenance Engineer, you'll respond to call-outs, perform scheduled maintenance, and ensure wagons are safe, reliable, and ready for action.

What You'll Do:

Diagnose and repair faults on freight wagons

Respond to emergencies including derailments and brake issues

Carry out inspections and scheduled maintenance

Support technical operations during on-call hours

Collaborate with terminal staff and train operators

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

Full UK driving licence

Fault-finding and repair experience

Strong communication and IT skills

Willingness to work unsociable hours and travel

Desirable Extras:

HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4

Knowledge of brake systems, couplers, and running gear

PTS or equivalent site access certification

Additional Information

Full training (12–16 weeks), tools, and PPE provided. Work in a supportive team of two during on-call shifts. Be part of lean initiatives and continuous improvement.
