This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will design and build propellant tank and habitable structures to support our crew landing system. You will work with suppliers and other support organizations to procure, fabricate, and install large welded structures. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, release, and maintain welding process documentation.
  • Support procurement activities to support vehicle build schedules.
  • Support integrated test objectives, data review, and reporting.
  • Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
  • Work with multi-functional teams across multiple work sites that include design, analysis, materials, processes, structures, fluids, systems, procurement, and manufacturing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in mechanical, structural, or other relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years in professional engineering experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials.
  • Experience with large primary or secondary structures.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (e.g. sheet metal, machining, etc).
  • Familiarity with tolerance, GD&T and design for manufacturability.
  • Hands on experience with hardware "on the production floor" and/or "in service"

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with aluminum welding methods including friction stir welding and gas tungsten arc welding.
  • Ability to work independently driving engineering from conceptual to released engineering and flight hardware.
  • Experience designing for manufacturability and value engineering, with focus on cost reduction and build time hour optimization.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project or another equivalent schedule software.
  • Familiarity with budget management.
  • Experience in risk management and consolidation of technical data for presentation to senior leadership.

  • Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $117,498.00-$164,497.20.
