The City of Seattle's Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) has an opportunity for a Manager (Manager 2) within the Inspection Services Division. This position operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment supporting a high volume of complex construction and site development projects across the city.
The Manager 2 role works collaboratively within SDCI, across City departments, and with external stakeholders to support efficient permitting, consistent code application, and the resolution of complex technical and policy issues. This position helps ensure successful project delivery by verifying that field development work aligns with approved plans, civil and structural engineering designs, tree protection regulations, and City requirements throughout the construction process.
The role also plays a key part in administering and enforcing evolving tree protection regulations during construction, including oversight of impacts to trees on-site and on adjacent properties, in support of the City's goals for equitable preservation and enhancement of the urban tree canopy.
This position supervises staff responsible for inspections and related technical activities on a wide variety of construction projects which also involves grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, tree protection, shoring systems, special inspections and site infrastructure.
The work includes verification of approved plans, application of engineering and regulatory principles in field decision-making, enforcement of City codes and standards, and significant coordination with project stakeholders to ensure compliance and successful project outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires four years of experience equivalent to a Senior Building Inspector (Expert) and two years' supervisory experience. And / or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides an equivalent background necessary to perform the work of the class will be considered.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Work includes both office and field environments. Field inspections are conducted on active construction sites and may require exposure to adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, climbing, crawling, and proximity to construction equipment and hazards.

Current, valid Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.

The full salary range for this position is $56.57 - $84.88 per hour. The targeted salary for this role has been identified as $78.76 per hour.
