Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Every role at Scottish Water makes a real difference for the people and environment of Scotland. From ensuring water flows seamlessly from reservoirs to taps, to managing wastewater through treatment plants, our work impacts every corner of the nation.
Join our Risk Evaluation Team as a Senior Service Planner and help us deliver a resilient, sustainable water supply for Scotland. We are looking for one permanent position and one 12 month fixed term/secondment position. You'll play a key part in the ongoing operation and development of our industry-leading Water Risk Assessment Platform (WRAP), which is central to our Water Supply Risk Management System approach and compliance with BSEN 15975. You'll help us identify, evaluate, report, and manage risks within our water supply systems, supporting robust and resilient water services for our customers.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will develop and operate robust processes to evaluate and report significant risks identified within the Water Risk Assessment Platform (WRAP), ensuring these are aligned with regulatory requirements and investment strategies. Collaboration will be key, as you'll work across Scottish Water and with key stakeholders to ensure risks are effectively understood, managed, and communicated.
You'll contribute to data improvement workstreams, helping WRAP provide an up-to-date, objective view of risk for all water supply systems across Scotland. Supporting the development and implementation of scenario planning capabilities will also be part of your remit, enabling risk to inform sustainable investment decision making.
Your advanced analytical skills will be put to use producing clear, meaningful reports and insights for a wide range of stakeholders, and you'll work closely with related Water Supply Risk Management teams and colleagues across multiple directorates to deliver intended outcomes.
What You'll Bring
To succeed in this role, you'll need strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex water system data, producing meaningful reports for a diverse range of stakeholders, as well as the ability to evaluate evidence, understand cause-and-effect relationships, and make informed decisions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Power BI, is required, and you should have a proven track record of building dashboards and reports that drive decision making.
Excellent communication skills are vital, enabling you to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and translate complex information into actionable insights. Experience working with digital tools and a willingness to learn new systems will be important, as will self-motivation, resourcefulness, and the ability to support and collaborate with others.
It would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of drinking water safety planning alongside water treatment processes or water network operations and an understanding of the associated quality and continuity risks.
Experience with programming languages for advanced data analysis and automation would also be helpful. A full UK driving licence would be beneficial to enable travel to and from our central belt office locations.
Looking out for you

A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you're interested in this job, but don't tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don't rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We're very used to making adjustments, so please don't be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it's important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don't already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven't submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won't need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
