PDM Debt Finance Analyst II

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Private Debt Mobilisation (PDM) is the department of Banco Santander Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) that is responsible for the distribution to investors of all private credit risk assets of CIB. This includes underwriting transactions, managing the underwriting risk of the bank, and syndicating, distributing, and hedging those transactions. This role is in the PDM Trade & Working Capital Solutions (TWCS) team, responsible for PDM activity for TWCS transactions.

As an Analyst in PDM TWCS team you will initially support the PDM TWCS Structured Trade team in the syndication and distribution of TWCS transactions globally. The candidate will occasionally support other verticals such as Receivables, Supply Chain Finance, and Documentary Credit, if needed.

We need someone like you to help us with the following tasks:

  • Assisting the team head when reviewing, structuring and designing the most appropriate distribution strategy for Structured Trade assets, Global Transaction Banking for Continental Europe in structuring risk mitigation solutions for new business opportunities
  • Preparing presentations and teasers for investors
  • Responsibility for a wide variety of reports, performance tracking and record keeping.
  • Liaising with internal counterparties in the TWCS business, Risk, Banking and Corporate Finance, Middle and Back Office and other functions to ensure seamless operational execution of all distributed transactions.
  • Attending investor meetings in person and virtually and ensuring accurate records of these meetings are input into the systems and disseminated to the appropriate parties
  • Learning and understanding the market dynamics between banks, insurers, corporate clients and other parties in the value chain
  • Supporting strategic portfolio management initiatives by analysing cost and portfolio structures and doing research
  • Occasional travel to London, and to some other European hubs
  • In due course there will be opportunities to start working independently on transactions, offering these to investors directly and managing the whole process of syndicating transactions from end to end

EXPERIENCE

  • No specific experience is required, but a solid interest in, and knowledge of, the Corporate and Investment banking industry and Banco Santander's place within it is required, as well as current and financial affairs.
  • Relevant internships/work experience in the Corporate and Investment banking industry will be one way of evidencing this, but we are open to those with the appropriate education, maturity and a hunger to learn.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in a business/economics/law related subject, or a bachelor's degree in another subject coupled with a strong interest in and knowledge of current affairs, business, finance, economics etc.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Required
    • Strong commercial mindset, with the ability to persuade investors and internal stakeholders
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a flexible, dynamic and demanding work environment
    • Competence with MS Office suite of applications, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
    • Good numerical skills and ability to think through situations logically and calmly
    • Above average presentation and communication skills
    • Ability to multi-task under pressure
    • Strong work ethic and ability to learn quickly
    • Fluency in English is a must, and it will be tested.
  • Desired skills:
    • Prior commercial experience is a plus
    • Fluency in any other European language ability will be a strong differentiator
    • Superior PowerPoint and/or excel skills
    • Existing knowledge of TWCS products a bonus
    • Experience or education in a business/economics/law related subject, or a strong interest in and knowledge of current affairs, business, finance, economics etc.
