Learning Support Assistant

Are you a compassionate and inspiring individual with experience supporting high-needs students in education? As a leading Further Education college in the West Midlands, we are currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join our dedicated team on fixed-term contracts until June 2026, with both full-time and part-time hours available. Please note that your salary will be calculated based on the number of term-time weeks and the hours worked. The advertised salary reflects the full academic year. Salary: £23,447 - £27,164 per annum (pro rata £19,386.27 - £22,459.53). Please also note that this salary will be updated to reflect the new academic year. We will advertise the revised salary accordingly once the updated pay scales are confirmed.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of complex special educational needs (SEN). Building positive, trusting relationships will be central to your success. You will be expected to support learners with a variety of challenges, including complex learning difficulties, behavioral needs, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Key responsibilities include implementing effective behavior management strategies, carrying out administrative tasks as required, and providing personal care with confidence, sensitivity, and respect. A genuine interest in education and a strong commitment to improving the lives of young people are essential.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

These are excellent opportunities for individuals who have a strong understanding of the wide range of needs students have in an FE setting that affects the achievement of goals. You will be adaptable, resilient and have a desire to make a lasting difference to the lives of our students. Your classroom and behavioral management skills will be strong and you will have the ability to work with students who have a wide range of emotional and physical needs. To be successful you must have at least GCSE in English and Maths to grade C or above, or a recognized equivalent qualification (FS L2), and current skill levels at L2 in Literacy, Language and Numeracy. You will hold a minimum of a Level 2 subject qualification and a qualification related to supporting others, health and social care or teaching.
