About the Role

SandboxAQ is a high-growth company delivering AI solutions that address some of the world's greatest challenges. We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineering Resident to join the AQMed team. Your mission: to help revolutionize heart health by developing the critical software that powers our next-generation, non-invasive cardiac diagnostic devices. In this role, you will be deeply embedded with our engineering team, taking on hands-on challenges at the intersection of software and physical hardware. If you are passionate about building tangible technology with life-saving impact, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Actively collaborate with the product and engineering teams to design and prototype novel features for our cutting-edge medical devices
  • Take ownership of integrating prototyped features into the full medical device software stack, ensuring seamless operation from the Python backend (Tornado/Flask) to the React-based frontend device operators use
  • Create clearly-written, tested, scalable, and documented SW solutions
  • Take a hands-on role in the lab, supporting the software setup, integration, and debugging on real-world hardware
  • Collaborate with infrastructure engineers on CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment workflows
  • Grow your skills and learn from a world-class, tech-focused team that includes experts in SW engineering, physics, AI, advanced data processing, and medical device products.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a M.S., or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Very strong programming proficiency in a modern programming language, ideally Python.
  • Comfortable and experienced with Linux-based systems and the command line.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects that involve the integration of software with physical hardware.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with frontend development in React, TypeScript and storybooks.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems firmware
  • Familiarity with building, testing, and deploying applications within a mature software development environment (e.g., using Git, CI/CD, etc.).
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably within AWS
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and orchestration tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Previous internship or project experience in the medical software or medical device industry.

Key Competencies & Personal Attributes

  • A proactive, self-starter mentality coupled with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a strong bias for action.
  • A high level of intellectual curiosity and a genuine, strong desire to learn continuously.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking capabilities combined with a practical, "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude to ensure execution and get things done effectively.

Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive, adapt, and maintain high performance in a rapidly evolving and sometimes unstructured environment.
