Social Services Lead Worker

Schedule/Hours: 40

This position is responsible for:

Serving as lead worker by supervising and participating in the provision of social services assistance to eligible clients of the community; interviewing clients to determine need and eligibility to receive services; preparing accurate and complete client records; referring clients to community agencies and maintaining effective working relationships with the same; ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists clients by interviewing them to determine needs and eligibility for need based on programs available; refers clients to other agencies when cannot be met through The Salvation Army.
  • As Lead Social Services Worker, oversees and participates in assisting clients with follow-up paperwork by faxing, emailing, etc. necessary information in order for them to obtain services available; records data in client files based on what services are provided.
  • As Lead Social Services Worker, oversees food pantry operation by checking daily temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and dry food storage areas; checks inventory and restocks depleted items from excess inventory storage area; maintains separate storage for all USDA food items and labels appropriately; maintains donated and store bought food items; orders food from Harry Chapin food banks at designated times; coordinates and assists with unloading, separating, and storing food in appropriate areas of food pantry; enters monthly statistics on Harry Chapin website at the end of every month.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work may require performance of duties in medical environments and social services where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent AND Two year experience coordinating or managing work in an office environment, preferably in the Social Services field OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
