Director Of Social Services

Schedule/Hours: Full-time

This position is responsible for: Planning, developing, administering, and evaluating all social services programs, including the Emergency Shelter, Food and Clothing emergency assistance, and Pathway of Hope, by the stated purposes and within The Salvation Army general social services policies and procedures, state and government regulations as well as contract funding requirements. The Director will oversee the execution of the programs in such a manner as to ensure clients and residents receive a proper assessment and maximum benefits. Manage the utilization of the Agency's external resources, staff, and volunteers appropriately by well-defined policies and procedures. Perform all duties to ensure the integration of available community services for transitional housing, coordination of direct services, advocacy, education, etc., resulting in improved quality of life for clients and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs the operation of the emergency shelter staff; develops, administers, and evaluates all functions and activities of the shelter to ensure they meet policies and procedures.
  • Provides intensive case management to families, including but not limited to working to developing an individualized case plan, meeting regularly to assess progress towards goals, and providing referrals to community organizations and educational resources.
  • Reviews all personnel evaluations on all social service employees and makes comments as appropriate before performance interviews conducted by the employee's supervisor; initials and approves any reminders, warnings, or reprimands issued to personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to read and comprehend legal terminology to determine compliance.
  • Ability to perform public speaking.
  • Ability to calculate figures and analyze mathematical computations with accuracy.
  • Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (25 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

What We Are Looking For In You:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field. Advanced education is desirable AND
  • Three years continuous experience in administrative work with at least two years in a supervisory role and experience in grant writing, personnel management OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid State Driver's License
