Fire Safety Specialist

New per-diem position to assist with coverage during vacations, LOAs, etc. Responsible for executing fire safety protocols, preventive maintenance, and supporting the overall safety of the hospital environment. This position involves hands-on tasks related to fire prevention systems, equipment, and emergency response.

Essential Functions

  • Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm systems, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, and other fire safety equipment.
  • Perform routine checks to ensure all fire safety systems are operational and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
  • Act as a first responder during fire emergencies, assisting in evacuation procedures and collaborating with emergency response teams.
  • Conduct regular fire drills to ensure staff awareness and preparedness.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hospital facilities to identify and address potential fire hazards.
  • Repair and maintain fire safety equipment, including fire doors, emergency lighting, and evacuation signage.
  • Provide training to hospital staff on fire safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and the proper use of firefighting equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and emergency response actions.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Related Field of Study preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials: Fireman 2nd Class [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Department of Fire Services required. Hoisting Engineer [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and Inspections Division required.

Experience: Experience in fire safety or emergency response or similar role, preferably within a healthcare setting 2-3 years required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of local and national fire safety codes and regulations. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team. Ability to stay calm and collected during an emergency or crisis.
