Accessibility Services Assistant
The Accessibility Services Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the office's mission to ensure all students have equitable access to education. This position involves assisting with daily office operations, digital accessibility work, and student-facing support. All work must be approached with care, empathy, and professionalism, in alignment with Saint Leo University's Core Values.
General Responsibilities:
- Answer phones, take messages, and forward calls to professional staff as directed.
- Greet and assist all office visitors; help maintain an organized, confidential workspace.
- Help students navigate the AIM platform and campus support resources.
- Perform clerical tasks including scanning, organizing files, and basic data entry.
- Participate in required training sessions and weekly team meetings.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Support other Student Affairs units as assigned by supervisor.
Accessibility Services-Specific Responsibilities:
- Convert textbooks and course materials into alternative digital formats as directed.
- Maintain accurate student records within the AIM platform.
- Provide peer support under supervision (e.g., guidance with assistive tech logins, printing).
- Use specialized software (e.g., screen readers, text-to-speech tools) to test functionality.
- Assist in maintaining a lending library of devices and accessibility tools.
- Help develop visual guides or short tutorials for students using assistive technology.
- Participate in departmental outreach efforts by calling or emailing students with reminders or check-ins.
- Assist with event logistics including tabling, setup, and student check-ins.
- Co-create digital content and social media posts about available accommodations, tips, and resources using tools such as Canva.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Must be Federal Work Study eligible and approved.
- Demonstrated patience and maturity in handling sensitive information.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Basic computer skills including file formatting and web navigation.
- Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the Saint Leo University Core Values.
- Ability to treat all individuals with dignity and respect, especially in sensitive or confidential contexts.
- Preferred:
- Familiarity with assistive technology platforms (e.g., Kurzweil, Read&Write, JAWS).
- Comfort with calling and emailing students in a professional manner.
- Interest in education, psychology, health sciences, or technology.
