Senior Software Engineer, AI

SafeRide Health is transforming access to care for America's most vulnerable populations. We deliver technology-driven solutions that modernize non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), ensuring a better member experience and improved health outcomes. As a Senior Software Engineer, AI, you will build AI-powered product experiences and platforms across the SafeRide ecosystem. You'll collaborate with product, design, data science/ML, and operations to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable software in a regulated environment. This is a hands-on role where you will own end-to-end features—from backend services and data/ML integrations to polished, accessible UIs—helping improve reliability, efficiency, and equity of access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own production services and user experiences for AI-enabled features (member chat/IVR, dispatch optimization, provider quality, fraud/waste/abuse detection, and internal tooling).
  • Integrate and operate model-backed systems (LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, classification/ranking, speech/ASR) with robust evaluation and safe fallbacks.
  • Develop secure, scalable APIs and event-driven microservices; contribute to system architecture including data contracts, observability, resiliency, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Implement high-quality front-end experiences (React/Next.js); collaborate with design on UX quality, accessibility, and performance.
  • Write maintainable code with strong test coverage (unit, integration, e2e); participate in code/design reviews and improve engineering standards.
  • Instrument features with telemetry, dashboards, and alerts; run experiments (A/B tests) and iterate based on data and feedback.
  • Champion privacy, security, and compliance (including HIPAA/PHI handling); contribute to responsible AI best practices across the SDLC.
  • Collaborate in an agile environment with PM, DS/ML, QA, and Ops; document decisions, create runbooks, and support on-call rotations.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building production web applications, platforms, or services.
  • Strong proficiency in at least two of: TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Go, or Java; familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React/Next.js).
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML into products (LLM APIs/SDKs, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings/vector databases, model evaluation/observability).
  • Experience building and operating RESTful/GraphQL APIs, event-driven systems (queues/pub-sub/WebSockets), and microservices on a major cloud (AWS preferred).
  • Solid data fundamentals: relational databases (Postgres/MySQL), caching, streaming, and data modeling.
  • Operational excellence: CI/CD, containerization (Docker), infrastructure-as-code, logging/metrics/tracing, and on-call participation.
  • Security-minded approach with knowledge of authentication/authorization, secrets management, and secure handling of PHI/PII in healthcare.
  • Strong communication and ownership skills, with comfort collaborating cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate/Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS/Kinesis, CloudFront), Terraform, and serverless patterns.
  • Familiarity with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone), feature stores, and ML platforms (Databricks/MLflow, Vertex AI/AWS Bedrock/Azure OpenAI).
  • Background in logistics/marketplaces, contact-center systems, routing/optimization (OR), or speech/ASR.
  • Experience building healthcare or other regulated products, including privacy-by-design and secure SDLC practices.

Benefits

  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO and paid parental leave
  • Home office equipment stipend
  • Mission-driven team committed to transforming healthcare access
