Human Factors Engineer (HFE)

Do you want to make a real impact? Here you contribute to creating safety for people and communities. What you do matters.

At Saab, we develop advanced defense systems where world-class technology meets the demands of reality. Our products are complex and high-performing, but above all, they are created for people. Therefore, Human Factors is a crucial part of our development. Now we are looking for a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) who wants to play a key role in ensuring that our systems are safe, intuitive, and adapted to the actual abilities of the user. Here, the physical, cognitive, and psychological aspects always play a role. With us, you become an important voice for the user throughout the product development process.

As an HFE, you are expert support in our projects and are responsible for integrating Human Factors principles from requirement setting to verification. You work closely with developers, project managers, and end users where you ensure that humans and machines interact seamlessly.

Main duties:

  • Be the main contact for HFE-related issues in projects
  • Develop and maintain internal design guidelines and standards
  • Plan, conduct, and follow up user tests with representative end users
  • Perform ergonomic analyses and risk assessments related to human factors
  • Analyze human abilities and limitations in relation to technical requirements and operational complexity
  • Prepare clear reports and recommendations for both technical teams and decision-makers
  • Ensure that HMI design maintains high quality in complex, multi-component systems

We believe that you combine analytical sharpness with a genuine interest in the person behind the technology. You are engaged and solution-oriented, and thrive on identifying improvement opportunities together with others and turning them into practice. With a structured and evidence-based working method, you let insights from tests and analyses guide design decisions and you do this in close dialogue with colleagues. You work closely together with other competencies in projects and build trusting relationships with developers and end users. Your curiosity and willingness to continuously develop mean that you are constantly seeking new perspectives and improvements, both in your own role and in the business as a whole. The role is highly team-based, and we see that you appreciate working in shared processes where ideas, perspectives, and responsibilities are shared. For you, collaboration is not just a part of the work, it is a prerequisite for creating quality.

We want to strengthen and further develop our HFE work by building a strong team with a common working method and a culture where we actively share insights, experiences, and perspectives with each other. Collaboration within the HFE team is central, and we believe in knowledge sharing, joint method development, and supporting each other to achieve high quality in our deliveries. Your curiosity and willingness to continuously develop mean that you are constantly seeking new perspectives and improvements, both in your own role and in the business as a whole. Therefore, we are looking for you who are confident in your competence, value teamwork, and want to shape both working methods and the team. A specialist and a natural team player. We value diversity and are convinced that different experiences and perspectives strengthen both our teams and the solutions we develop.

We believe that you have:

  • Master’s degree in, for example, cognitive science, interaction design, UX design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) or equivalent technical field. (Exceptions can be made with solid work experience in, for example, naval command and control systems.)
  • Very good skills in Swedish and English, spoken and written
  • Experience in user studies, needs analysis, requirement work, concept development, prototype creation, and user testing
  • Experience in working with HMI design in complex systems
  • Ability to work structured according to established design processes as well as develop them according to the business
  • Experience in customer contacts

Meriting:

  • Experience with naval command and control systems or other safety-critical systems
  • Practical experience with HMI design for complex, technically advanced environments
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as MIL-STD-2525 and ISO 9241
  • The position requires that you undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, it may, in some cases, involve requirements for certain citizenship.

Discover endless possibilities. Embrace challenges, create smart innovations, and upgrade your skills. This is a place for clever thinkers, brave pioneers, and everyone in between. Together we achieve the extraordinary, each contribution counts.

Saab is a leading defense and security company with a mission to help nations protect their population and contribute to the safety of people and communities. With 26,100 talented employees, Saab develops technology and solutions for a safer and more sustainable world.
