Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. In the absence of the Director, the Engineering Manager will assume the administrative, financial and operating aspects of the hotel as they relate to engineering.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include:

  • Providing the highest quality of service to the customer at all times
  • Dealing promptly and efficiently with guest complaints and needs
  • Having a thorough knowledge of emergency and safety procedures
  • Responding to all emergency situations and being prepared to assist
  • Responsible for the ordering of supplies, tools and equipment and maintaining proper par levels to corporate department standards
  • Supporting, maintaining and implementing the department's BOH preventive maintenance program
  • Assisting with other duties as assigned and serving as "Building Manager" as required while maintaining and repairing the interior and exterior of the building
  • Representing and supporting the Chief Engineer in his absence confidently on all levels to ownership, corporate executive leadership, contractors or other department heads
  • Creating and implementing a PM program for the back of the house areas
  • Creating and implementing a PM program for the mechanical equipment in the building
  • Reviewing, adhering, and understanding all safety procedures
  • Performing maintenance checks of equipment and logging properly
  • Attending Daily Operations Meeting
  • Supervising and training all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures and Loss Prevention
  • Ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of all workspaces, shops, and storage areas
  • Training and supervising to Building Managers on daily, weekly, monthly and yearly duties and responsibilities
  • Evaluating to Building Managers as necessary – Coordinating with HR
  • Maintaining and obtaining all licenses as needed by the NYC, NY State and other Government agencies needed for the building
  • Staffing and directing the performance of the staff and following up with corrective action when needed
  • Adhering to all work rules, procedures, policies established by the company
  • Experience with union issues
  • Assisting in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair
  • Ensuring the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws
  • Ensuring all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified per Highgate Hotel standards
  • Actively participating in energy conservation programs
  • Following up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Front Desk. Taking immediate action as necessary
  • Supporting and participating in all Highgate Hotel programs
  • Leading and/or participating in Highgate Hotel Safety Committee

Qualifications

The qualifications include:

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or a related field; or a technical certificate with at least 1 year of supervisory or lead mechanic experience
  • Stationary engineer's license if required by local code
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Long hours sometimes required
  • Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Maintaining a warm and friendly demeanor at all times
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
  • Approaching all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
  • Attending all hotel required meetings and trainings
  • Participating in M.O.D. coverage as required
  • Maintaining regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards
  • Maintaining high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing nametags
  • Complying with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Maximizing efforts towards productivity, identifying problem areas and assisting in implementing solutions
  • Ability to handle problems and anticipate, prevent, identify and solve problems as necessary
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Performing other duties as requested by management
